I am really tired of the spam, pointless and joke reviews overwhelming the real ones.
It happens in most games. Make meme, youtube, almost anything giggly teen girls find funny and it goes to the top, pushing the good and real reviews down to the bottom. Also, the reviews that have NOTHING to do with the game AT ALL do the same thing.

It's not funny and it doesn't help the people who want to decide if they want the game.

I tried making 2 good reviews but no one's seen them because of this problem. Honestly I think people only upvote the funniest reviews and that can misguide people when wanting to play a game :\

I've done a few reviews as well, but I don't really care how popular they become. I mostly typed them up in case any of my friends cared about my opinion about those games.

(snipped)south park is entirely made of jokes, do you not expect people to have a laugh at it?
I do, and to be clear, I have no problem with reviews being "funny" or having humor contained within them. I personally am not looking for some sort of sterilized reviews void of personality. However, the South Park example I gave tells me nothing about the game itself. and that's the problem with the reviews. Good or bad, they should have more than 7 words.

I have to say that Gus The Croc came up with some pretty good ideas. There should be some sort of sorting feature for the reviews I think too.

You're never going to please everyone, this latest Steam update has proven that. So many people angry over some very subtle colour changes. People aren't angry that it's not functional, they're angry it's a different colour.

I was looking for a Guide for playing L4D2 online, the top guide called "How to play L4D2 online" has 207 ratings & is a joke about getting kicked/voted out with a "funny" picture.
Zero help and not what the guide page is for, I had to dig through a few pages to find some real and excellent guides that posters put real time and effert into. maybe the posters who post pointless crap should get a red-card or points taken off their XP rather than getting XP.

One of the problems is you have to make a guide to get a "community!!!" medal & the other is humbug those damn kids are on the grass again..i just must be getting that old.

Thank heavens that i am not the only one who despice those "i was in a toilet 10/10 goty" reviews....

When i read a review, i want something bloody useful. Something that helps me decide. Not some frickin meme...

on the internet you cannot stop idiots from being idiots, the only thing you can do is be part of the solution, not the problem. Downvote reviews that are stupid and when you write a review try and make it detailed and clear, but realistically there is nothing that can be done about stupid people being stupid on the net

Actually, the task is to view a guide, not make one (and you don't have to complete all the tasks to get it anyway).

Joke reviews happen because they're so easy to digest. It's just one or two sentences versus a two page essay. A vote for a good review and a joke review have equal weight. Except joke reviews are processed faster and more widely, drowning out good reviews.

I hate it when terrible games get tons of "postitive" reviews that are actually just jokes.
Or good games getting negative reviews.

It has gotten to the point where I don't even look at steam user reviews anymore, if I want to know what a game is like I will look at in-game footage from a "let's play" video or read a review from a profession journalist who will at least get the sack if he/she/they write an inaccurate review.

I would like to see something where you have to play a game for a certain ammount of time before you can review it (e.g. 5 hours) I have Dishonored in my games list that I have not yet downloaded and played and I could rate the game up or down even though I have never played it.

One of the problems with that, is that I may have played it fully on another system, but want to review it on Steam. So it may show that I have only, say 1.5 hours, but you don't know I put in 67 hours on my 360.

Besides, it seems a 'popular' thing to do is to run a whole bunch of games at one time to get Trading Cards and such, so there's nothing stopping someone from just leaving the game on overnight and bam, there's hours and hours of game time.

There's nothing preventing this, but it is another barrier that would marginally discourage some people from posting crap reviews because lulz.

Also, playing for any less than about an hour is probably a poor way to get a good feel for a game. Maybe you can pretty easily decide whether you like the genre, but you shouldn't be judging a game based on its genre anyway.

Sure, though not all games are even an hour long. On top of the fact that noone else need agree about how long it takes to get a good feel for a game, this is why "I don't want to see this" is better implemented as a filter for the reader than a restriction on the writer.
