Dumb thing about older COD games on steam
I actually didn't mind world at war being $20 on steam. But what I didn't know was that the FIRST COD GAME, THE ORIGINAL ONE FROM 2003, WAS THE SAME PRICE AT $20. I just don't understand why.

It's capitalism, plain and simple.

It's a downside to a digital market. Infinite shelf space. There's no need to clear stock. No incentive for discounting. These publishers already make enough money from all their revenue streams that they don't need to worry about how well (or badly) a game from 15 odd years or so sells. It's totally unimportant to them. If they only sell one copy at their asking price every few years, that's still more money than they'd make on that title if they were limited to a physical market only.
True. I routinely try to remember people that they can't compare the physical and digital market in such regards. They're different distribution models each with their own perks.

Plus that people often forget that companies have different interests, preferences, priorities and views than users/consumers. They don't always align, and that's ok. At the end of the day, the companies decide the price points they want to receive and the consumer decides whether they want to pay that.

Doesn't mean things can't be critiqued, of course. But that also doesn't mean things have to happen differently.

They don't lose out on the physical markets either. When something gets discounted at a brick and mortar, it's the store taking the hit - the distributor, publisher, and devs have already gotten paid for the product.

At the end of the day, just because something is old doesn't mean it's worth any less than it was when it was new. In some cases, it's worth a lot more. It just seems in the software market, and games in particular, that the consumer has this uniquely entitled outlook that they should only have to pay bare minimum for a product, if anything at all.

In a sense they do lose out. But it's not a question of discounts. As I said before, it all comes down to shelf space. Naturally, stores want repeat custom. To get that with games, they can't sell the same few titles forever. That's one reason digital appeals to publishers. They can sell on any system for however long that system remains relevant. They aren't limited to the few weeks or months that a store will allow their title to take up store shelf space.

For those who truly appreciate gaming, and aren't just out to get things for free, both digital and physical work in their favour. If your know a certain publisher doesn't discount to your liking on digital, then you can look to physical and, more specifically, the second hand market. There are amazing deals out there if you prepared to be patient and look around; even with the current trend in the west to try and turn retro gaming into a collectibles market.

There are no laws that dictate how a game should be priced just because it's reached an arbitrary age.
For what the first COD actually has compared to other CODS with more content and also being the same price, it just doesn't make any sense
I was just thinking about the older CoD games, before it jumped the shark and went multiplayer crazy..

I really miss old school single player story line style FPS like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. I wish they'd make more solo adventure games of those styles..

I'm so far past multiplayer craziness.

It makes perfect sense. What you mean is that the price isn't one you want to pay. The answer to that is shop around. Don't limit yourself to one walled-in platform or system.
The reason all of the older COD games aren't discounted to be dirt cheap is that Activision doesn't want to drive their playerbase to older games. It's a multiplayer game, so spreading the community out between many different entries will result in the death of all of them, whereas keeping people towards the newer releases keeps the playerbase large enough to form good matches.

Activision doesn't really want you on their older CoD titles anyways. They want you on their newest release so they can bombard you with skin bundles and the 6 Season Passes they have per game cycle.
Basically this. They don't want the playerbase splitted amongest their older games (The time you're playing MW2 you're not playing BlackOps6) So they price out their own competition.

That's why MW2 has been sitting on my wishlist for a decade.

why isn't season 6 BattlePass available in the store?
Prices are... whatrever the publisher wants them to be.
Pretty much. They wore me out on Modern Warefare and I snagged it for $10. Original version.

I have 1 and 2 and WWII(from a humble choice bundle. )

Because Season 6 and MWIII ended last month. We're on Season 1 of the new game, BO6. In fact, we're already on Season 1 Reloaded...
