I mean you can already use the current Steam OS. or just about any other version of linux with proton. Pick one, install it and you're saved.

I don't expect you'll see any more updates to Steam Os since now the focus is on proton.

SteamOS is being constantly updated. Last stable update was released yesterday:

https://steamcommunity.com/games/1675200/announcements/detail/4461471496628339025

Problem is SteamOS 3 is only available for Steam Deck. Valve has not released SteamOS 3 to general public and it can't be installed on regular PC. Only Valve can tell us if they intent to release a version suitable for regular PC or not. So far no information about it has been released.

If you are not able to install a already existing Linux distribution and install steam on it by yourself, then a "steam os" wont help you in any way either......

if you are to dxxx to install linux and use it, then you wont be smart enough to use steam os either.

Steamos is just a linux distro based on Arch and uses KDE plasma with the steam client and proton preinstalled.

you can achieve the same from any other linux distro and just install steam and proton, however games that use kernel level anti-cheat won't work.

You do not understand young one, this CPU is/was manufactured broken and seemingly I missed out on the RMA timeframe - one reason I would never adopt a brand new CPU architecture again in my life (at least not a Generation 1).
