Every single postable area on steam is being slammed by a tidal wave of bots.
I've been observing recurring patterns in how certain posts and replies are structured, which makes me confident that some form of chatbot or AI tool might be actively monitoring and responding across the site. Even game announcements that usually receive little attention are now attracting these replies. It seems plausible that this anti-woke movement could be orchestrated by someone targeting Steam, potentially to create disruption. One particularly telling sign is that all the involved accounts have private profiles, which is unusual when it's consistent across so many users.

Given Steam's history of dealing with bot activity in games like TF2, addressing this issue could be a complex and drawn-out process. If these accounts could be analyzed, I suspect the resulting data would reveal some intriguing trends. Unfortunately, I currently lack a clear method for gathering the evidence needed to substantiate this theory. For now, I plan to document my observations, including the account names I encounter, in the hopes that it contributes to building a meaningful data set.

"Its not possible that people hold different opinions than my clearly morally superior opinions. They must be bots. It couldnt possibly be an ongoing backlash"

Profiles have been defaulted to private for years.

Accounts are on private by default. Many people never bother to change the setting, or prefer to stay on private due to people being harrassing asshats who have trouble accepting opposing opinions.

I'll admit I was not aware of that change. That makes it a lot less suspicious and makes everything I said pretty worthless speculation now.

https://youtu.be/lw2BVI9OhC4 Nothing new. Sadly the og clip is long gone. It's just bandwagoning/clan mentality.

Once someone kicks the hornets nest, everyone who can't think for themselves are gonna wanna have a go at it. And since point farming is a thing, well guess again.

In other words, if insert word/news/ideology is trending, you bet your universial credit that people are gonna join in.

In my case it's from a psychological perspective. There is nothing funnier than watching and collecting peoples reponses and turning them into profit.

Steam is likely to be the only on capable of mass spamming its own platform and never bothering to correct the spamming, any one else would be removed quickly and with prejudice, some questions you need to ask is why the spam and what does steam have to gain.

lol if you wanna see bots, look no further than the Failguard store page. majority of reviews are from paid bots.

That would be the obvious conclusion. However, there's always the option of publishing your research for purely entertainment purposes.

Oh, and those private profiles? Some of us can still remember when the Social Justice Stasi would "doxx" people for things like suggesting one "Anita Sarkeesian", despite the vast improvements in gaming resulting from her astute critiques, was possibly not the greatest shero in all of herstory, and then call up their places of employment and screech about there being a major Bigot stacking shelves in their sportswear section until said employment was terminated.

There was a time when I found myself falsely accused of a serious crime simply because I got involved in the complexities of the Gamergate controversy and attempted to create discussion groups to untangle the confusion of the situation. Many participants acted in bad faith, and the environment was tense and unforgiving. But just because we witnessed those bad actors at work doesn’t mean we should justify reacting in kind or clinging to an opposing ideology as if it were a game to win.

It's 2024, and it feels like we should have learned more from those chaotic years. Instead, we still see people caught up in posturing, fighting for ideological wins instead of meaningful progress. What’s disheartening is that now, the right seems to have adopted the same tactics once used against them—amplifying division, digging trenches, and escalating the culture war instead of building bridges.

I’m tired of that mindset. I want to grow, to be a better person, and to help others rise above this cycle. It’s time to focus on understanding, empathy, and real solutions rather than fueling the same conflicts that hold us back.

copy/paste wording full of the same predictable buzzwords. it's literally like those anti-Trump MSM composites that say the exact same thing.

what you said had nothing to do with what you replied too. why did you necro this thread just to say something so useless?

PocketYoda Dec 21, 2024 @ 4:41am
