Stop calling GabeN greedy, he worked hard and deserves every cent he makes.
et’s get one thing straight: Gabe Newell, the founder of Valve, absolutely deserves every cent he’s earned, and the constant whining about him being "greedy" is as tired as it is misguided. This is the man who revolutionized PC gaming with Steam, built a platform that offers sales so good you can get AAA games for the price of a latte, and created legendary franchises like Half-Life, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. If you’re mad that Gabe has money, maybe direct your outrage at companies charging $70 for unfinished, microtransaction-laden garbage instead of crying about a guy who actually delivered quality. Steam changed gaming forever, and if you think making billions from that is "greedy," maybe take a second to reflect on why you’re using the platform daily while complaining about the person who made it possible.

The issue is lost games and has everything to do with greed.
I have a right to those games because I paid for them.
Your stealing thousands of dollars from me.

Indeed. If steam ever goes down for good then every single purchase is gone for good. You do not own the games. In contrast to a cd in physical form that you can take with you and install at will.

I am ok with the concept of protecting the IP. I am not comfortable with renting a game and paying for something that is not even mine

Steam is a service that will send you a fresh copy of a game you own a license to play at any time you request it.

The physical media the game is stored on is your computer. If Steam goes away, you can no longer download new games, but all the games you already have are still yours to play. The same way that if a physical store goes out of business, you can no longer go there to buy a new CD-ROM, but existing media you have games stored on still works.

Try it right now - unplug your network cable and see if your games magically disappear. (Or don't and just imagine what would happen if you did.)

We do not own our games, therefore Mr Newell is stealing from us.

I appreciate what he has done in the past, but he has gone from Hero, to Zero, as he hides out having nothing at all seemingly to do with this company, but take our monies :steamfacepalm:.

If you were truly 'renting' a game, you would cease to own the license once a recurring condition was no longer met. Even if a game gets removed off of Steam, you still can download and play it. I have quite a few of those myself.

The games require steam to play now.
I believe in IP ownership because it's stealing to take paid games away,
But the big problem is security.

So, why the heck do they secure IP addresses? They can remain private,

I have a licence to all my games.

Sorry, does "IP" in this post mean "internet protocol" or "intellectual property"?

First one I think is intellectual property, second is probably internet protocol. Bit of a strange comment considering they have little to do with each other. Regardless, as a user of either, one owns neither.

Friends matter much more than money, and stealing is a crime.
Just renew the games, and keep the money.

How is it stealing when you agreed to all the license terms yourself?

There is a difference between morals and ethics.

I take the moral side. The loss of many game,
but I know they don't care for morals, just money. The ethical side, which I am an enemy of,

"Morals and ethics" are subjective. Not keeping to the terms you agreed to and claiming it's "stealing" is quite immoral and unethical in my book.

Love conquers all.
But all I see is hate and greed.
