I guess as long as we in the Immersive Sim crowd keep spreading the word about the Fortune Runs, Sonar Shocks, and Peripeteias we find (just to name a few), the genre will survive.
But I really don't know how to combat the tag misuse. I've been reporting the tag in such Simulators, but I'm not sure if that makes it be removed from the games (with enough reports), or if that hurts the tag existence itself.
It's interesting, I've been playing games since ~1980 and the first time I ran across the term "immersive sim" was years after Skyrim came out. (and after "<complaint> ruins mah immershun!" started to spread like a disease on gaming forums.)
