Immersive-Sims and Simulator Games should be seperated on the Steam store?
Honestly I could just be crazy but I find it annoying when I look up one of my favorite game genres (Immersive-Sims) on the store page and get nothing but simulator games like Euro Truck Simulator 2024. For every one Dishonored or System Shock 2 there are 40 'Something Something Simulator' games. Like I understand why the tags might be used for both types of games by casual gamers but if a fan created term like 'Souls-Like' can be used properly to tag tons of games then why not the Immersive-Sim tag?

TLDR; I think they shouldn't share the same tag because they're radically different genres lmao

Actually, ETS2 and the like are more Simulator, and immersively so (especially when using VR), than either of those games you mentioned.

Yeah, I've never understood "immersive sim" being thrown at RPGs & action games. It's odd.

I feel ya. Unfortunately these tags are picked by the devs/publishers, at least at first, before the costumers come in tagging. So nowadays a bunch of these Simulator devs see that the Immersive Sim tag exists and think "hey, my simulator is immersive, I'll use that", without knowing it's a genre name as old as "DOOM-clones".

I guess as long as we in the Immersive Sim crowd keep spreading the word about the Fortune Runs, Sonar Shocks, and Peripeteias we find (just to name a few), the genre will survive.

But I really don't know how to combat the tag misuse. I've been reporting the tag in such Simulators, but I'm not sure if that makes it be removed from the games (with enough reports), or if that hurts the tag existence itself.

I never use "immersive sim", it's a useless subgenre for me. I just classify the games in other categories.

It's interesting, I've been playing games since ~1980 and the first time I ran across the term "immersive sim" was years after Skyrim came out. (and after "<complaint> ruins mah immershun!" started to spread like a disease on gaming forums.)
