Permanently banned from Microprose publisher Discord.
So all Microprose's games fall under their official discord, I ate a 24 hour ban within minutes of going there for the first time for "speculating about the price of a title" I promise you I had less than zero idea about any of their "rules", I naturally complained on Steam, which I see now resulted in a permanent blanket ban across all Microprose titles.

I see Steam is always pushing Discord front and center, but what happens if the publisher's moderation staff go crazy? I've lost access to any official community and support from a publisher instantly and permanently, does that entitle me to strip my account of all their products or is Discord entirely separate from Valve?

There's a direct discord link on pretty much every Steam store page, not sure if Valve gets paid but yeah you can't go far on Steam without running into all sorts Discord links.

This situation sucks because the publisher umbrella-ed everything into a centralized discord server, so if they (or an unpaid moderator having a very bad day) want to slap a steam customer with a bunch of their products around hard, it's easy and Valve certainly won't know what the hell is going on (or care?), that entire arrangement sucks IMO which I find a little annoying.

Maybe the problem is me, I'm too invested in Steam and that's a legitimate problem because crap like this happens.

The developers and publishers can ban you from all their game's Steam forums too if they wanted too, and Valve won't do anything about it.

did you think valve added developers discord links?
The more I hear "this has nothing to do with valve" the less money I want to spend on Steam, strange reaction, weird.

You're not wrong, dude, I'm going to take a break from Steam.

Sounds like a personal issue, if the facts make you not like steam your free to not use it. It doesn't change the facts that Valve doesn't advertise developers discord's. The developers do that.

Ignorance is not an excuse. This is not discord. Valve are not Microprose. Seems comprehension is a problem for you.

I don't know about the DEI stuff but it's insane to me how hard Valve pushes Discord when they can up and turn into a complete competing retail storefront at a moment's notice.

I just don't like that external centralized companies (which are plastered all over Steam stores and Steam forums) has this much power over the products sold on Steam and its users.

I get the feeling there will be regret from very smart people at Valve one day when that site decides to finally go full on retail, they don't have any control of it and they market it for free, what's the worst thing that can happen?

Epic have been trying to stand up a competing store for years and have poured a staggering amount of money to it. Valve has an effective monopoly and discord isn't going to chase that market unless they decide they just have way too much money and need to get rid of some.

The people saying that aren't steam either, and none of us genuinely care where you buy your games.

When a company sells stuff on steam they get control of their own game forums and the mods/admins there aren’t part of valve, same with their discord not being run by discord employees

Anything that happened was done by microprose directly so getting mad at the hosting companies for microprose having aggressive moderation is pointless

They actually tried that years ago and ended up shutting it down after a few months due to almost no one wanting to use discord for game downloads

Because it has nothing to do with Valve. Your issue is with Microprose on Discord.

You'd only get send to a publishers Discord for questions that cannot be answered by Valve or Steam, which usually is anything game related. Cause, you know, Valve not being the developer or publisher does not know such things.

Valve doesn't have to warn you about the Discord of Microprose. Valve isn't responsible for the moderation on there. Valve has no control over any of that. All of that is correct.

Not sure why you want to pin the issue on Valve/Steam in this. That's the strange reaction and what is weird.

Probably was contacted on Discord by someone who definitely, truly, really, honest to Gabe! worked at Valve, and to prove it, he only needed to give them his login info. I mean, that's pretty much the only presence "Valve" have on Discord is the scammers.

"I see Steam is always pushing Discord front and center."

No, it actually is not.

NEVER follow instructions to speak with someone claiming to represent Steam Support through Discord or any other chat system, even if they come from a friend's account or claim to be able to resolve a false report.
