Steam VS Epic Games
In my opinion, Steam is better than Epic Games, though I don’t mean any hate. I just dislike Epic’s account system. Once, I made an Epic Games account to play Fortnite, but after some time, I stopped using it. Eventually, Epic Games deleted my account due to inactivity. That never happened to me with Steam. I left my Steam account inactive for 1-2 years, and it was still there when I came back. So, in my view, it’s worth spending a little extra on Steam to keep your games safe. After all, what’s the point of buying a game if your account might be deleted due to inactivity? Also, the Epic Games launcher tends to lag on low-end PCs, so I definitely recommend choosing Steam.

Epic is a scumbag company that manipulates release dates and platforms by throwing Fortnite $ at them, in some cases getting publishers to break contracts because the money is better.
Valve is a decent company that doesn't do any of that.
Simple as.

Epic doesn't have the games i play they carry here at Steam. If they did, i'd be there.

It depends on what you use them for. Epic exists solely for gaming and I can appreciate that.

I hate to say this but thank God Epic doesn't have forums. I have a feeling they would be far worse than these could ever be seeing the haters here.

Steam is the better of the two but they have years more experience as well.

This video by Fan the Deck pretty much summarizes all the reasons why I'd take Steam over epic any day of the week. Free games alone are not enough to convince me to love Epic.

sadly the forums on steam have turned into ♥♥♥♥, but having a place to actually ask for help about the game is nice.

I have seen plenty of people who still use the forums on steam to ask for help but they have the game on EGS. and before steam was a thing people used other forums for that stuff.

Saying forums, in general not what it turned into on steam, is a bad thing is just wrong.

In the past devs/publishers simply had their own forums.

We really should go back to that.

no, A lot of game devs didn't have their own forums. Sure if you talk about big ones like EA, blizzard and ubisoft sure, and they still have that + other companies also still have their own forums, so its still here.

talking about majority of game devs who are not a AAA company with plenty of money to go around? no.

Many are setting up discord servers, which so far has been the quickest way I have received responses from the developers themselves. Developers seem more engaged with their community through discord compared to their amout of engagement on Steam forums or reddit.

I can't speak of reddit. As I hardly use it if ever. But I've seen developers comment on why they don't use the steam forums more. They're a liability to operate. They lack proper forum and moderation tools. You doing anything on the forums has to be done in a basic way because Valve hasn't upgraded these forums really for 10+ years. The awards encourage toxic behaviour. People are more likely to get into long winded arguments to due to the formatting and general behaviours.

Many devs legitimately hate the Steam forums because of how useless it is and how much it can hurt them and their business. In spite of that they still feel the need to have the forums enabled because they could get singled out if they buck the trend and be one of the few games that doesn't have a steam sub-forum. Because you can technically opt out of having the sub-forum afaik. You just will find bad will sent your way if you do.

I don't really have a use for Epic atm. I've been collecting the free games and haven't even bothered installing the client. At least GOG offers something different in the market, whereas Epic is just meh and doesn't offer me anything unique.
