this is often the 2nd step in the con
the first involves you already giving them your info
just to be safe, make sure that you do not trade until you have done these
the scam involves you trading your stuff to a "safe" account
a friend or the like
and the scammer hijacking the trade
so, do these in this order
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a trusted/clean device.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
(there should be nothing in the APIKEY)
#1 why this is a scam.
#2 why this is a scam.
*If* support wanted to talk to you, and they don't need to unless you've opened a ticket first, they will ONLY do this on Steam, through a system that normal users cannot use.
Please use your common sense. The fact that this happened on discord should have immediately informed you that it's a nonsense scam.
If my bank calls me and tells me i have problems or i need to verify myself to them i firstly tell them to go and EFF themselves for being scammers and, secondly, that i look forward to my bank account being locked, so i can go down there in person and sort it out.
How can smart people be so damn stupid as to believe people on the phone or in messages? But they do so they keep doign it as it pays. Pays to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars now in fraud every single year. From pig butchering scams to scams about steam accounts. People are fricken stupid and those people almost deserve to be scammed so they learn
