Like, I had a friend who got banned from the Dolphin steam sub-forum (back when it existed). The developers who work on the Dolphin gamecube emulator banned him. They didn't like him saying Nintendo is probably going to try and take Dolphin down on Steam even if they aren't legally or morally in the right. He got banned for literally predicting Nintendo was going to do what they always do. Valve allows that because it's the cheapest way to run their forums. Capitalism.
You know what moderators like the ones on bioware veilguard and the liberal social media remind me of? The people who were republican during my childhood doomsaying about violence in video games, the sideboob nudity of mass effect and men wearing ear rings. What is it about political tribalism that rots peoples brains?
That's actually one of the 'secret flaws' of capitalism - it's totally acceptable for a product flaw or inefficiency to cost people more or burn more resources as long as you're not the one paying for it or it makes you more in the long run. E.g. planned obsolescence.
*points at a thing* "that's just like politics!"
Now let me tell you how the problem is making everything about politics.
just give up. words dont work.
All is not well at EA and or BioWare
As for Bioware, they'll be killed like many that were aqquired before them because that's what these big unicron-esk companies do. Gobble up smaller companies. Drive them into the ground with predatory get rich quick tactics. But still have all their assets and IP once they gut and fire the entire company so they lose almost no monetary value from destroying the company. Only losing the workers who were already leaving in droves because the predatory get rich quick tactics make gamers hate the developers.
Sure, but that's just because corporate culture punishs risk takers and reward those who mindlessly greenlight 'another live service game but this time with disney characters'.
You could have funded 500 3 person indie dev teams for a year to churn out proof of concepts for the same money it cost to develop Starfield (for example).
How many indie dev teams are enough? I am sure there are 500 of those teams at a minimum developing just for steam, and the consoles and mobiles have indies of their own.
Sure, but those 500 teams would have served Bethesda much better than starfield did. They'd have enough new IP to last them a decade or more.
