excellent video, well worth taking the time to fully watch, better than going to some website and reading god knows what about it

honestly your lose at this point the thing been fixed. small issue only affected people that had been logged in and had gone into their account info since if the pages were not generated then they would not have been on badly configured caching servers

number of sites like steam stats told people not to login and not to go to their account information when it was happening so there was no reason to worry if u did what they told u

....if you knew at the time what was happening . If you happened to check third party sites about a topic no one knew about in general at the time . Thats a lot of if's .

Does not change the fact that a lot of people are questioning the "security" of their accounts and how much info they should allow Valve to have given this latest mishap .

its always a good thing to question the security of your accounts and how much info you give to companies

but the best thing that everyone can do is

use very strong password (never give it out)

turn on steam guard

use family view for extrea protection

use cell phone for even more protection

if u want to be very secure compartmentalize...

use email address that you dont give out and use for like for sites like steam and that u have protected with very strong password (i have lots of email addresses, i dont use the one i use on steam for let say emailing friends and its protected by very strong password)

enable 2 step authentication (use the cell phone u have for something more than making calls and if u dont have cell phone w sms go to google setup shell account, setup google voice to give u free phone number with sms and with voice mail ect that u can use to make and receive free calls/sms and setup google hangout to pass it all to you email and give that phone number to steam as the number to uuse for sms and dont give out that phone number use it for authentication on shopping sites)

setup another email and number for use on financial sites

setup another email and phone number for like shopping sites

setup another email and phone number for like government sites

setup another email and phone number for like close friends

setup another email and phone number for like not close friends

setup anothr email and phone number for public sites like twitter, google+, facebook, reddit

setup anothr email and phone number for like throwaway sites

make sure u give them all different dob, ect. that way its all fake they use it just to make sure its u they really dont need your real dob and they cant check to begin with if its real or not.. its more used to have something that a person should remember, u can use manager to remember all the days very easy

u know u can have it all managed by your phone numbers to be easily accessible from one site like google and/or your phone (use forwarding) and or rules u setup in whatever email program u use to put in right inbox...

u can use free sites like nomorobo.com to really protect your phone numbers.

so basically u compartmentalize and use password manager to remember it all that u keep on like thumb drive or some device that is offline

i know pain to have so many email address and phone numbers, jus thave like pattern to them so its easy to remember...

Steam could reduce all the caching by...I don't know... not having a ridiculous starting page.
Just because you can pile more on a page doesn't always mean you should.

with well over 100M accounts caching is a necessary evil. sure i guess they could have like light version of site but when u get to it all popular web sites of do this sort of stuff. think about it you go to your account page and they gnerate it and cache it and keep serving it up until some time passes or until the data changes else they keep serving it up cause its very expensive to generate. so they do like all tricks else u cant have 100m members not even 1M not even 100K members hitting the site i dont think even 1K members hitting server at same time without all the tricks of having servers all over the world and having server farm and having queues, pooling and caching and just about everything u read about.
