Why? Who's creating that expectation? If you look at the boards, it seems like every year people are complaining that x product was cheaper y year.
Still, regardless of whether it's a perishable item, do you go into other stores and scream at them when their sale price on anything is different week to week/year to year?
Isthereanydeal is a useful site. Link your wishlist to it and get notified of any change in price from any of the stores it tracks.
Well, that settles this debate.
With the big name publishers it's usually the case that the game is only discounted once it was promoted on the main page, for example look for far cry 4 to be discounted once it was there, but probably only 50% as it was during the autumn sale. And those deals normally don't last until the end of the sale. Sites like isthereanydeal or steamdb.info are indeed very useful.
In terms of physical goods I will certainly be unhappy about prices being higher than before if they have been brought down many times for an event but not this time. But that rarely happens because we do we do not track every sale at such stores unlike steam prices and also physical games get cheaper with time as stores clear space for new stock. All you need to do to see I am right is to check the bargain/clearance bins.
I am sorry you cant get around the fact that sale prices have risen. I know it doesnt feel good, but its a fact. I dont know what valve and publishers will do next year but this year I went to other sites for most of my purchases.
Except Skyrim hasn't always been $5. It's been more common to see it at 66% off, with its DLC showing lesser discounts. The winter sale has also not always been the best price for all products always. You need only look at the Jade Empire troll from a couple years back. Obscure and its sequel going on sale for one Halloween sale, never to see a sale again. Or some publishers changing their approach to discounting DLC. While there are some patterns with some publishers, when you actually look at it in practice, there really should be no expectation for consistency. That sort of thing has been created solely in the mind of some consumers.
And you dodge it again, coming up with even more excuses. I can clearly see that the answer is no, you don't go into other stores to yell at them when sales aren't the same as previous weeks/years. Is it really that hard to say that you don't show this kind of behaviour in other stores? You keep dodging the question.
Some have. Some haven't. That is a fact. That you choose to only complain about the ones that have says much more about you. Of course you should shop around, you would be an idiot if you didn't, but when it comes to an expectation that you somehow deserve the lowest prices on Steam during the winter sale is an undue expectation that you (and others) have built up on your own (and complain about every year anyway).
If you look at the boards, every sale is the worst sale in history, every sale was better than last year, every sale has better discounts on site x, y, and z, every sale has people claiming that they're "done with Steam".
The only thing that is consistent is that people will complain about everything.
Check once a day to see new discounts, that's also more fair for everyone.
The only thing I miss is community vote. That was really cool, I actually discovered some of the stuff only because of community vote (even though my item lost I still bought it)
Most people don't bother with complaining. They just find a new store with more consistent cheaper prices and vote with their wallet, so the argument is superfluous and the analogy is disingenuous.
With that said, if the item I'm looking for is on sale at that point in time from another store for a better price, you're damn right I'm going to make a complaint. Why? because just about every store out there claims to have the lowest prices, and further promises to match or exceed the lowest price of their competitor.
You're complaining about the other guy dodging your question, but you conveniently made an analogy that dodges a few very important details that undermine your own argument quite nicely. ;)
What's that? Most people don't set up camp in the store that they're unhappy with, instead moving on to elsewhere?
Thank you for making my point.
Assassin's Creed is usually discounted at 75% off. This year it's not and some of the games aren't even on sale. Ubisoft has a better sale on some of the AC games than Steam does.
I'm now watching other sites for deals rather than Steam since I've seen them go cheaper already. The latest Crusader Kings II expansion (Horse Lords) is on sale for 50% off on some sites but not here for example. Since many sites have Steam keys, no sense to just stick to Steam anymore, especially if the discounts won't be as deep as they were in the past.
Used to look forward to these sales every year. Now ... not so much. Only reason I'm keeping up with it now is to just sell the cards. Might make a dollar by the end of the sale from selling them if I get lucky. Guess I won't have much reason to look forward to the summer sale, either. Seems to be cheaper to wait for the smaller sales throughout the year than it does to pounce on the big sales.
No. Your "point" amounted to 'suck it up and deal'. I made a more effective suggestion.
