Steam command line FPS LIMITER Working.
Hey,

I am testing different method for FPS Capping. Does anyone know how steam limits the FPS with the command [-fps_max <X>] ?

Apparently using in game limiters is the best for input lag. testing this now.

Any info is appreciated.

I believe Vsync does worse than other limiters. so oh well.

You may stop believing that, because the input lag Vsync gives you is neglectable in current titles. If Vsync causes noticeable lag, they must be bad games that have been badly programmed, or their computer is too slow.

According to battlenonsense's video. vsync is not reommended at all. so idk what you are saying.

idk but something to do with waiting for the display. where other types of capping draws the frame latest, only the frame time is synced or something. so you action will be he latest as it can be.

again i don't understated it much. but i can feel that in game limiters have lower delay than vsync. so yeah

Was nvidia's offering tested?

Yes. Nvidia inspector he called it. i believe its the same?
and does it rank higher than RTSS in input latency tests?

RTSS has lower delay than nvidia i think. not sure, can check the video?

Thank you! Great video. Amazing how RTSS and Nvidia have identical input latency. So my guess is any 3rd party limiter is going to be the same, unless somehow they like actually modify the exe of the game or run the game inside of their process. Really cool stuff.

I'll share it forwards, you wanna see a dev talk about input lag and how we tolorate different input latencies based on the type of input device (ie: VR headset, Mouse/Keyboard, Controller). What if that dev was John Carmack the creator of Doom and FPS games? It's a thing.

niceee
i am only here because on hl2 mods i have found an issue with limiting frames.
on entropy zero, it says i need to disconnect from the server im in (it basically puts you in a server for the animated menu), or join spectator team. i cant do either of those! i am using the "fps_max 65" command
