Could it be you're password is using characters that aren't allowed? Steam like soo many others can let you create a new password with characters you can't use which means when you enter the exact password it'll show as invalid.
Below is details of mine.
Remember someone saying 64 characters worked, mines not that long. upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
I know these symbols work as they are in mine somewhere + # , . % / \
Think what Yasahi was saying is if where you copy it from has a space.....often at the end a word there may be a blank space. That space can get copied so you paste the space which isn't part of the password resulting in it being invalid
This is the one I use. No need to install it. Can run it of a USB drive if you wanted.
https://keepass.info/
Can add URLs and use Keepass to open them in your web browser so you'll always go to the exact same site.
Can also add notes to the entries, Backup/Recovery codes
No idea why you're having an issue. This would just eliminate user error as a possibility. For me when I change passwords I do so in the manager first and then transfer it to the app/site to make the change. Never a chance to get it wrong then :)
usernames can not be changed and are only used to login. The one you can change is your Profile name
If you go for a password manager once you add the username, correct one, you won't even need to pay attention to it. I have 2 Steam accounts and can't remember which username is for which account hah
Glad it's all sorted
Maybe read the 3 year old thread you just necro'd. Highly likely a Mod will be around soon to lock it 'to prevent confusion' like usually do
I checked out Keepass. It is open source so that was one of my requirements if i were to ever go down that path.
The fact that the german Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, BSI checked this out is a big plus. The BSI is the german NSA . They found no faults with the source. No vulns were found in any of the 3 categories.
I have my passwords written down on paper but if the building burned down while i am out i would be screwed for a bit.
I am a bit skeptical of password managers. unless biometrics are involved or a physical token. The weak point is a password.

That is a clip of an ex windows developer that worked for microsoft explaining the ins and outs of passwords and how easy it can be sometimes to crack them, using brute force dictionary attacks.
Even 7 digits or more passwords are nothing for brute force if there is no timeout on failure.
Recently, last year, a password was cracked that would normally take 10.000 years to crack. So even a 50 bit password which was until recently seen as strong is garbage now. Image a 50 bit password being garbage. Processors now can handle insane amounts of calculations. Imagine what a small build super computer could handle.
Since the late 90's i use a combination of letters, lower case and capped, numbers and special characters. This year i may include ASCII characters from their list such as ™ for example.
