Is there a way to add less than $5 to your steam wallet?
Hi, I was wanting to make a purchase of $50, and I have the money in my wallet. But, with tax the total is $52.36. Is there a way to add that specific amount to my wallet? I'm less than $2 off, and I don't want to spend more than I have to.

$5 is the minimum you can add.

https://store.steampowered.com/steamaccount/addfunds doesn't look like it. And I wouldn't expect there to be a secret page that has alternate amounts.

Realistically your options would be to use a credit card, debit card, or paypal or something in that vein to cover the difference.

I've heard there is a way to do a custom amount through a browser and not the Steam client, but you can't get around the $5 minimum.

You could try selling some stuff on the community market to make that amount

The truth is they shouldn't. Because too many people added $1 are actually cost Steam more. To be able to receive payment from credit card or debit card in store, then the store owner have to pay fee each use cards.

eh. if you have a credit card, or debit card, or paypal linked to your account.. in the situation you describe you should be able to pay $50 with your steam wallet... and then pay the remainder with an alternative payment method... and that will only charge paypal/debit card/credit card the extra $2 and change.

You don't have to prefund your account through Steam Wallet..

It does seem like using the browser's developer tools you can edit the HTML form to put in custom amounts. But it also seems like Valve does some server side validation to prevent custom values under $5. So no help for the OP.

Other comments:
  • It's not officially supported and there's no UI to do it.
  • The existing guides are dependent on the Add Funds page not changing (the guide I read was updated in 2018 to account for page changes).
  • Server side validation prevents amounts less than $5, but could also be updated to only allow the amounts listed on the buttons as opposed to allowing any amount over $5 (and possibly less than $2,000 since that's the wallet size limit.)
  • Valve could update the system at any time to prevent this sort of user tinkering.
  • It's certainly a lesson, or example for anyone interested in programming, but has never had to worry about user inputs: This is an example of why you need user input validation and why you can't and should never trust users. Even if it's pretty benign in this case, it wouldn't always be. It's tough to control user input just right, users can find any wiggle room you leave available.
