Possible Account Scam - CS2 Tournament Voting
Hello world,

For the past couple of days, a few of my old old friends have had their accounts stolen.
The method of operation seems to be the following

Your infected friend, will message you a greeting, and then they will ask you to vote for some counter strike team on some tournament thats in the UK but turns out to be an indian hosted server.

They tell you to vote for some team on a CS2 Tournament. They will send you a link to a website, which I will not share for security purposes.
On this website, when you click on "vote" for the team they recommended, this will initiate a log in screen for your steam credentials.

DO NOT Input your steam credentials.

My friends fell, because their friends fell. But I caught on to the scam, because I'm a cynic like that.

Just watch out.

Yup, it's a well known scam. Valve even created FAQ about it:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/7958-1D76-CA26-7BB4

Nice to see you were able to avoid falling for it.

Yeah kids, I know you are up to date with your steam scams and what not. But my friends fell for the scam, and many people could fall for it. Thanks for your replies.

This makes no sense, the topic is to warn others about a scam that others know, you are told this and reply with your friends fell for the scam and many others could fall for it, implying others who will fall for this scam are going to read this topic prior to that happening. That likely will not happen because as you can see this topic has been made many times previously and your friends did not read those previous topics, ergo the same will likely happen with yours and overlooked.

None of this is new.

I find myself perplexed by the underlying motivations driving these threads. Does OP truly believe that they'll be showered with accolades for uncovering yet another ... uh ... insidious ploy? And then they act all mopey when nobody throws them a parade.

It's Steam. In 2024. I'm sure a couple of folks out there might have caught wind of it. Just a hunch ...

Didn't mean to perplex your austounding minds. I was just merely posting a warning to people. If it bothered you so much that I posted a warning for others, you could have just ignored it. But, I guess we all choose our poison, right?

And it just happens that I love this particular poison that we've started. Which is why I will speak my mind.

It doesn't matter that it is not new topic, or scam, or whatever. It will always happen, andsome people will always be unaware. We always gotta have these special kind of individuals in forums that always believe they are superior to the peons because you are aware of more than the rest.

Showered with accolades? Sorry to dissapoint you kid, that's not what I was looking to accomplish. If you don't see the good in this post, then something is wrong with you.

Take care of yourselves. <3

of course any voting off steam website even with a similar name is a scam trying to obtain your steam login and password.

remember steam would never have a vote on csgo 2, and any and all voting is rigged anyway don't waste your time with nonsense.

Valve literally does voting via the Steeam Workshop for CS. Never outside of Steam itself.

Personally i don't care if they're expecting some kind of reward for pointing out obvious scams. It is actually just rather sad that despite falling for a scam, being show that these topics don't prevent scams (save for the person I've seen use an alt account to post in their own topic stating it was useful) and learning from this they are instead concerned the facts being pointed out. If op was concerned about this they would educate their friends who allowed their accounts to become compromised and ask if they can spread that knowledge to their friends.

In fact here is a very good example of how these topics don't work.

This is from 2022, yet op's friends didn't see it.

And here is another one just from today. I take it they didn't see op's post here as well.

It's not rocket science. There's a simple thing you can do to not get your account "stolen"

Step 1: don't scatter around your login-credentials

And that's all about it. OP clearly mistook verbosity for simplicity, when a mere sentence would’ve sufficed.

A good rule of thumb for the internet in general: If you get any emails/messages/invites/whatever asking you to do something that involves entering your account credentials for ANYTHING? Look up the email/link/site in question to make sure it’s legit before entering anything.

Scammers have gotten very good at making fake email addresses/websites/etc. that look like the real thing at first glance.

It's not a possible scam, it IS a scam.

I actually did not know about it and guy tried to scam me. So I first searched the name of the site on google if it is normal tournament site but there were no results. So i googled if this is a scam and it is. I still probably would not click on it but I can see this post saving some people…
