Which sites are you linking?

Did you turn off the setting for "Don't embed images and other media in-line" in the Friends & Chat settings?

Steam > Settings > Friends and Chat

In case that didn't do it, did you turn on your cookies? https://store.steampowered.com/account/cookiepreferences

Because politics has no business in gaming - But some how it got fully integrated now, Congratulations gaming has become a sub division to politics.

Edit: Just so everyone's aware Politics is not creativity - it just changes depending on who's in charge at the time.

Edit 2: DEI is basically a chip that politicians can use to flip off and on to who's in charge at the time. Have 4 years with games with DEI in it, or 4 years with games no DEI in it.

Gaming is officially ruined and there's no coming back to it.

Which is why politics and religion should be taboo subjects on Steam. If Valve can't be neutral, just don't have one sided discussions.

It might be that your image is in a format Steam doesn't support, then.

Both of those were removed from the rules May 9, 2023.

Found this thread in Steam Client Beta forums:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/3/3494256256409989257/
And this reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/ytjsg8/cant_send_images_on_steam_chat_app/

Both seem to have the same conclusion- you can only send images you took with your camera phone on the mobile app, downloaded images in your gallery will throw an error. There are other threads about it here on Steam and on various subreddits as well.

So it isn't about politics or religion, or political or religious images. It's about the mobile chat app having extremely limited or broken image support.

TL;DR- it not censorship. It's a bug or poorly coded app with limited image file type/format support..

And the promised updates for the chat app never did come.

Still possible some pictures could be banned for anti-impersonation purposes.

I disagree, It should be allowed on OT because that is the forum for stuff other than gaming in general. Stopping free speech everywhere doesn't make you look good, either.

And it isn't like you can't avoid those topics anyways.

It doesn't surprise me that the mobile app is inferior to the PC client ... at least for now. Mobile phones are inferior to PC when it comes to specs.

When you say free speech, should they stop constantly banning people who call out hateful content? Or is "free speech" kind of like the whole dogwhistle for hate speech first?
