steam profiles
Valve you should seriously consider removing the options on steam profiles to private accounts and hide details on accounts... all accounts should just be made public

Easy fix. Just make it so Private accounts can't post.
Should we all leave our doors open and unlocked as well?

Who said that? I read the entire thread and not one person suggested that, I just suggested that Private Profiles be not able to post.

Agree/disagree not one person here mentioned your front door.

How about….no. NTM, even if I ever do decide to make my profile public-some games will still be privated (largely for the reason that I’m never touching them again and don’t want them counting towards my public achievement progress). But people have all kinds of reasons for privating accounts/games-and they are all valid. I also don’t think any random person on Steam should be able to comment on my profile-especially since the “block” feature on this site isn’t very robust.

And making private accounts unable to post is one of the most ridiculous suggestions I’ve ever heard. Just say you’re nosy and want to “punish” those who don’t indulge your nosiness. Mind your own business.
Worst ideea ever...

Ah, it's the latest "I want to find dirt on you dammit" thread.

Valve should never consider this idea and I hope they never do. Everyone is entitled to their privacy.

:theperformer: Just someone who thinks their preferred level of privacy is best and wants everyone forced into the mold.

Valve is the one that made all profiles default to private years ago now. So theres that.

basically this.

It's a known and common fact that those who complain about private profiles are those who 100% desire to sift through a user they argued with or straight up hate, just so they can scrounge up some ammo to throw back at them in the pettiest of ways.

It's the free choice to make one's profile private and OP has no right to deny that freedom.

I understand people want to private their accounts to hide the fact that they don't have anything there and only created that account to cheat in games like CS2 [which is probably the reason why you're complaining about this]. A solution should be pairing players according to how old and how much they spent in games/skins.

By doing this you'd get rid of most cheaters and even if someone cheats with an expensive account, they'll lose all the money eventually and it would feel rewarding for players that had to play against them.

The vast majority of cheaters are level 0-10s with almost no games and no skins anyway. Cheating with a steam level over 50 is the exception, people with hundreds of games cheating? That's a thing, but it's rare.

This is entirely false. Most people with private profiles either just like their privacy, or are sick of people digging up some irrelevant point on their profile to argue the man not the argument on the discussion boards, or just tired of dealing with harassment from users (the DBD boards are a hell of a place and notorious for users pulling that ♥♥♥♥, hence why mine is private and has been since a certain user started spam commenting my screenshots).

So…let me get this straight…you want to force ALL users’ accounts to be public because SOME users cheat in multiplayer games?

I swear, the amount of people who want to make EVERYONE’S lives worse because some people cheat in multiplayer games (and specifically the CS franchise) is worrying. Not everyone lives on CS-I’ve never touched any of those games myself.

Almost every multiplayer game has the option to report cheaters-if your chosen game does not-demand the option from the devs of said game.

I’ve never cheated in any game, (unless you consider trying to remove achievements for games I never plan to touch again cheating-which you shouldn’t care about, because even if it falls under your definition of “cheating,” 1)It doesn’t happen in game AND 2)It affects no one but me.

Steam has erred on the side of giving people MORE privacy lately anyway (you can have a public account but private certain games) so I doubt they’ll ever consider this.

Thankfully.

Also, for the record? I currently own 385 games-not that that is any of your business.

+1 for the DBD forums being a hellscape (and my brief time in the game/DBD Steam community is the reason my account is likely staying private for at least six months), that community is just…well, the worst, IMO.

Lol yea, the Steam Discussion and Suggestion boards don't hold a candle to it... was a nice time waster though. Guess that's what happens when the devs actively foster an us vs them mentality between killers and survivors and then stick them all in one place.

Sad!
the same people complaining about "private information" (which none of that is even on your profile if you unprivate it and dont private any steam account information) are the ones that plaster their life story and actual information all over social media... lol you do realize you dont have to put anything on your profile...
