They don't. You can type out the word and be fine, because the word gets auto-filtered. But if you modify the word like you did, you get a ban.

Like lets pretend "Potato" is a 'bad' word.

If you typed "potato" it would display as "******" and you would be fine. If you typed "P*****" you would get banned. If you typed "P0t4t0"you would get banned. Etc.

I also found this out the hard way in the past.

For a start, the ban was for 1 day, so it was long ago removed (they're too stupid to even check that little fact).
