... although as mentioned in the above reply as well, an extra tweak could here be that this third-party preservation group could potentially even host the server infrastructure, and in that case with or without a "public" release of the server software.
Mmm. Just interesting. Off to bed :)
And yes, if we view a contracted out to party as an internal detail, I'm aware that what I'm saying is as such not a change from an end-user perspective. Something like that program is as said a potential change in the preservation aspect though if it were to to be taken as "preservation B2B" in that sense I'm talking about.
This really changes nothing since if those games get pulled by their respective dev/pubs.. well same issue as before. This issue has nothing to do with games that are still actively being sold.
GoG also isn't really doing anything they haven't done before... Basically just building fan patches into the isntallers.
Speaking of which i do believe they'd mmake more progress on game preservation if they basically just gave dev/opubs more arguments and money to you know, put the games on stores.
if they force this for developers....i think they should force telling us if game needs internet to work also... and guarantee how long it is live. make it happen
Well, no, it's time to change practice -- although not likely by way of this European initiative; it's dead as a dodo (a species of bird which, I might add, Europeans also killed off).
