Randomly banned on COD and now my account is stained
Lemme start by saying I'm furious. I logged on Saturday and noticed I got a notification saying I was permanently banned from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, CoD:MWII, and Warzone for "unauthorized programs and manipulation of game files". Mind you, none of these games have been installed on my PC for weeks. I wasn't playing them, let alone cheating. There was a random Battle.net account linked to my Activision. I wasn't phished. I don't click anything or talk to anyone, really. My guess would be a data breach on Activision's end, they're practically known for them. I sent two support tickets to Activision. One for my account recovery, and one for the ban appeal. Activision was quick to unlink the Battle.net account. This also lifted my ban. However, my ban appeal was denied. Therefore, the game ban is still recorded on my Steam account, despite it being confirmed a false flag. Steam and Activision support have been very short and unhelpful, giving me vague and irrelevant responses. I've had this account for 12 years, and I hate seeing it sullied, seemingly randomly, by something I feel I couldn't have prevented. Thanks for reading if you did, I'm very frustrated with this.

not 100% sure but i think joining certain modded servers was 1 way to get an unwanted game ban in some older cod games.

No modded servers, and I hadn't had the game installed for weeks. It was out of nowhere, and it ruined my account imo
Just to be clear: I don't care about playing CoD ever again. I was already done playing at the time of the ban. I just REALLY don't want that ban on record on my Steam profile.

does not matter if the game hadnt been played or installed for weeks. your game ban could be from an infraction months ago.

something happened. try to work out what it was

That's the thing. I have no idea what could have happened. I only played quick matchmaking with my irl friends once in a blue moon. I never used external programs, never joined community servers, never logged in anywhere but Steam. I just don't understand why I was banned, let alone how to get the ban removed from my profile. It was already lifted by Activision, but I don't think Steam has a way of removing recorded bans from my profile. Even for false bans.

Bans issued by game developers need to be appealed via that developer's support team.
