Helping the community to identify hidden moderator alt accounts

So here are some tips to help users identify undercover moderators and steam controlled accounts posing on the forums as users.

While we will see many people who say they don't exist, here are some tell tale signs you might be dealing with steam moderators and steam employees.

1. You check the post history and see original dates of activity being between 2011 aug - 2013 Sept. If the first active post falls between this time line the chances are pretty good you are dealing with a undercover steam moderator, or a steam employee who is acting in bad faith with the forum.

2. They attack comments which point out issues with moderation and are likely trying to instigate users , such as commenting about a users previous bans, or attacking them directly with slander aimed at the persons credibility.

3. They have inconsistent posting history focusing on one or two game hubs which then suddenly shift completely to the steam hub where the engagement of attacks directed at forum users become apparent.


Why this is, is because steam generated a unknown mass of accounts in 2011 - 2013, these accounts are full of games and are rotated frequently to portray new users on the forum who seem to side with moderation.

This information is classified and evidence can not be given without incriminating the sources within steam.

If this was a free game, CSGO, and they have 60 minutes playtime, total different story. But at that, they would be limited as to what they post. Lets move on.

I got bored and I did some tasks for it while idling the play time. You can do at least 20 tasks without unlimiting the account.

I did not get the Community Badge for playing a game. A single task out of 28 tasks is to play a game.

You do not need to spend any money at all. This is the answer.

2 hurdles to post on the main forums. Not "many."

1. Steam Guard.

2. Play a game for 60 minutes.

He didn't.

He did other stuff to get the badge while waiting the hour.

The badge is worth 100XP, his account still has 0XP since it is limited. It's displayed as such next to the level bar. If you look at any unlimited account, you will see it will display the amount of XP as it's earned. Since his account is limited, it will not earn any despite getting badges that are worth XP.

you don't have to jump through hoops. You just need to have Steam Guard and you can post in the general forums. No money required.

This is once again false. It's not a "hurdle" to be able to post on the forums. Anyone using Steam is able to access it rather easily.
