Games similar to Cave Story?

I played cave story maybe 2 years ago and I want today I will play it again, I wanted to also play something graphic,mechanic similar to it, I really love platformers like this....

the story also seem to be inspired by the relationship that pixel (the creator of cave story) had with nicalis.

La Mulana and Spelunky 1 and 2 are the obvious picks.

I had never heard of La Mulana until recently, but it apparently predated Spelunky and was actually an inspiration for it.
