Plus. Dude, EVil Dead game...that franchaise has not had the best track record when it comes to video games.
All games that take the exclusivity deals get way less of my money when they come to steam. Paid around $20 for Borderlands 3 and the first season pass. Will not buy any game that is on epic first without at least a 66% discount.
You’re right—Valve won’t ban you for it, they don’t care.
Are you meaning they need to do something to make their store more attractive to you?
It seems Valve’s decisions don’t make, e. g., VR worth your consideration.
Well then They have no chance of getting my money. Hope Epic paid them well. :P
And no you are not forced. STill your choice m8. Do you want to play the game so badlyv that you're willing to buy it on EPic? That's your choice. I mean its not like EVild Dead is the only game ever going to be released this year :P.
I got Samurai Shodown and all DLC for a little over $40 on Steam, Shenmue 3 with all DLC for under $10 on GOG, IIRC Metro Exodus plus DLC for under $25.
The only thing I got burned on was Humble selling a base Control for Steam in a Humble Bundle because it was Steam or Epic, I picked the Complete Edition off GOG later for around $15.
Ubisoft games are also on their own platform, so this isn't an Epic exclusive. And considering you need to have an account on Ubisoft's platform to play(Unless they changed it), it's useless to buy it anywhere else anyway.
As for your OP, Valve doesn't need to do anything. Epic is hemorrhaging money with their store and will likely stop doing big deals anyway. And personally, I prefer for Valve to not get into this console garbage that are exclusivities. Also, new games being exclusive is still a minority. Most games still comes to Steam. Players on Steam are also in no way declining.
Personally, I can wait if a game I would want is an exclusive. After some time, it will come to Steam fully patched and less expensive. However, if you absolutely want the new shiny thing immediately, you would have to take it where it's available. It's on you.
Always keep in mind, OP, that just because a company doesn't do what you want them to do doesn't mean they're not doing anything. Companies are allowed to run their business as they see fit and that can differ from what consumers like you want. And that's ok.
In the end you can choose to use multiple stores/launchers and get everything you want immediately. Or you choose not to and in some cases that means you have to wait or not get them. And yes, that's all ok.
Other stores are allowed to exist. Not every Steam game is on Epic. Valve is doing perfectly well for itself. So it's not clear to me why Steam needs to "do something".
Epic is allowed to have sales and promotions, Steam is allowed to have theirs.
Why does Steam need to do everything Epic is doing? How dare Epic try something new. How dare Steam stick to the formula that has continued to work for them even after Epic launched. And it's worked for years. Why does Steam need to be reactionary toward every thing another store does.
No one was forced to play Half-Life Alyx. Valve doesn't owe you a certain number of games. Or games from IPs you like. And that's doesn't have anything to do with Epic anyway.
Well methinks you don't have a clear handle on all the issue, so you made up your own data, and it's bad. And it sounds reasonable to you so it must be true. Well it's not.
Valve isn't going to run its business based on your imaginings and worries when they're well aware that Epic exists and what they're doing. They aware how successful Epic has been over the last 4.5 years, and how much Epics marketing is really costing them and how unimpressive throwing all that money around has been.
Valve is aware that Epic exclusives often sell better on the first month on Steam after exclusivity ends than it did the whole exclusive period on Epic. Oh yes, Steam needs to do something to sabotage that status quo...
Maybe user feelings and beliefs aren't a good substitute for reality. Maybe Valve is aware of that keenly.
Steam
-Does not bribe developers into exclusivity
-Welcomes the open market; Devs choose to come to Steam and can sell wherever they like in addition to Steam.
-Allows Developers to interact with the community, via Game Hub (forum)
-Has general forums, chat, & other social functions provided for free.
-Functional, profitable model that stands and succeeds as a store.
-Doesn't need to interfere with other stores to succeed.
Epic
-Bribes Developers into 1+ Years exclusivity
-Does not welcome the open market, disallows selling elsewhere for bribed "exclusivity" bundles of cash.
-No ability to interact with the developer
-No forums or other social functions
-Failing platform that is a huge money pit, funded by fortnite and engine royalties; cannot stand on its own. Fails at being a profitable store.
-Desperation to make anything and get any amount of users, needs exclusivity to attract any users outside of user-bribe 'free' games.
Steam just sits back and collects money, Epic doesn't make anything and is deep in the negative as a store. Without fortnite and engine royalties, they would've gone belly-up within a day or a week with their bribery model.
