5+ months between the Summer Sale and Autumn Sale is a bit much...
...and less than a month between the Autumn and Winters sales is just the opposite.

I think it's time Valve starts to consider moving the Autumn sale to late September or early October and make the Black Friday-Cyber Monday sale exactly that since the addition of the Spring sale was with the intent of making seasonal sales more evenly spread.

Sales happen all year. Wishlist the games that you want and wait for Steam to notify you when they are discounted next.

There’s also a sale in October for Halloween. It really doesn’t matter, all the sales are exactly the same.

The Halloween sale is mostly horror focused.

That was not the intention.

The addition of a Spring Sale was a popular request from our developer and publisher community. It will allow us to create more space between our four major seasonal sales and provide more opportunities throughout the year for developers to expand and execute their discounting calendar.

It was so they could add a bunch of smaller "Fests" between the major sales events. You can see this in action with the events announcement for this year...

Plus, games can go on sale every 30 days, with custom discounts not affecting eligibility for Steam Seasonal Sales.
