Buying a "EA Game" on Steam I already own on the "EA app". Fine or asking for trouble???
Hey, so as the delisting of older Battlefield games is ahead (at least for consoles) I am thinking about getting the games also on Steam, just to have them in my library. The thing is: I already own them all on EA Origin & this account is linked to my Steam account.

Will this create any issue? Like do you have then 2 versions (one marked as "Steam") in your Ea Origin library or will it just "wipe" my EA Origin license (incl. stats)? Or will it count as it's own game license and I will be able to use both games separately?

JFYI I usually buy EA games that require the EA launcher directly for EA Origin and not on Steam (to avoid the problems you see everywhere posted), so I have zero experience how this works. Guess the Steam version will only show up on EA Origin if I launch the game on Steam, right? :garfield: Again, I do not intend to play the Steam version, it's just for my library.

If this is only affecting consoles then there is zero need for any form of concern.

If you have a license on Steam which is tied to the EA App, then it'll be in your EA App library with the Steam logo on the top left recognizing you already have it.

It will however give you all the achievements you achieved before on Steam when you launch the games.

There is the possibility that one of the versions will simply not register. I used to have two distinct versions of Mirror's Edge on Origin. The forced change to the EA App, saw one of those copies vanish. Now whether that would happen when buying Steam versions, I don't know. I personally wouldn't risk paying for a product that I suspect won't get.

I've also never encountered this with any of the Battlefield games.

There's no issue as far as I've encountered. They instakll to different dierectories and go through different verification channel.s They are treated as seperate entities.

That's probably why. I have all Steam games on a separate set of drives (3 total, 2 storage drives and 1 main SSD for games I play often enough) as EA, Ubi and Rockstar on 1 drive. I even gave Activision-Blizzard their own massive drive for their mostly insanely large crap games.

But when they already start to remove games on consoles PC isn't far away. :qpasapapu: "Bad Company 2" was also removed a while ago, and I would love to have them also in my library since it's my favourite franchise.

Which version did you loose, the Steam or the EA app one:riddle: Is the game completely gone or do you get some "no license" error or something?

Btw. the vanishing of games on the EA app seems to be common, f.e. after a update. Relaunching the app or clearing the cache seems to fix it.

"4 years ago", seems to be a older issue. Ddin't see recent complains, so I guess it was a game unique issue that is already fixed.

How does it look with in-game progress:riddle: Is it tied to the game license or the EA ID?

Also does the Steam version of the game show up on the EA app as soon as it's purchased or do you have to first start it up on Steam?

You can likely still make and join servers.

Regardless, at that time, BC2 was basically completely dead in the sense of cost of operation vs number of players. 2042 helped decimate the numbers especially during the recent super sales. It was also fairly old way beyond EOL, yet very, very fun.

Sooooo... you want double trouble, gotcha...
I want to leave this comment somewhere for this topic, I just bought some games (battlefield) I've owned on EA app / Origin for years, and I still had it installed on EA App.

I just moved the install folder to my Steam folder, clicked download in Steam, it verified the files.

When I launched the game, it synced up all the trophies I had already earned on EA App / Origin.
It automatically signed in to my profile and everything. Seamless.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
