[Linux] Bug with fresh install of linux mint
I just spent 20 minutes trying to get steam to work on a new install of Linux mint.

I had to refer to a forum post from last year where an issue with the steam client forcing GPU rendering will make steam constantly try to relaunch itself over and over again, with no way to functionality use steam.

Maybe because Steam Deck uses Arch rather than Debian

Is there a way to make the steam client on linux detect crashes and maybe make the program disable hardware acceleration after 5 successive crashes

Below is the thread that helped me solve my issue

(Also why is there a steam for Mac + windows subforum, but not a Steam for Linux subforum?)

You can disable HW acceleration yourself after any number of crashes.

I see, it has its own dedicated APPID, thats why I couldnt find it

I will post all future linux questions there

I was able to disable HW acceleration with this users guideance, but the crashing app itself gave me no option to do that (you cant launch settings from the tray icon - which did function correctly BTW)

I have been asking but still haven't found any pure linux steam games. Seems like people develop for the proprietary systems and THEN build for linux as an afterthought. It should not be this way IMHO.

Its not too hard to fix the issue - its just that it would be nice if steam worked on Debian / Linux Mint straight out of the box instead of having to use elevated admin privs to change one of the default settings
