Can you translate discussions in Steam?

I know I could just open the URL and translate that way, maybe Steam already had this feature and idk where it's at?

Steam doesnt but I just use Google tanslate.

Keep in mind that even if Steam did have an automatic translation function, you'd still not understand some discussions depending on what kind of machine translation/language model Valve opted for.

For example, say someone posts さば落ちた草 (saba ochita kusa) in an online game forum, most machine translation solutions aren't going to make any sense of it:

Google Translate will tell you: "mackerel fallen grass"
DeepL will tell you: "milk thistle" or "moss-covered rock" depending on whether classic or next-gen LM is used.
Chat GTP is just as confused: "Saba fallen grass"

Only Google's Gemini understands the actual meaning, and will give you some good examples and an explanation.

So unless Valve are going to fork out whatever costs Google would charge a corporation to access their Gemini API (and in a fashion that could handle so many concurrent users without frequent errors), you're better off finding the solution that works best for your specific need.

For those interested, in this context "さば落ちた草" means: The server crashed LOL.

AI these days will do it pretty well , no need to use Google translate no more, threw out Google translate long time ago.

It might be different depending on language, but when Japanese is involved, AI is mostly terrible. Gemini is the only one that comes close to understand a broad range of Japanese, and it still doesn't get everything 100% correct. GTP ranks lower depending on which API is used. In my personal testing, GTP is as bad or worse than DeepL. Google Translate is good for patents, but little else. Also keep in mind that depending on which AI solution you use, Ai has been instructed not to translate certain phrases that are deemed "inappropriate".

No machine solution available within the next 10 to 20 years will replace a competent, unbiased human translator.
