About the "LGBT stuff" spam in games forums.
We've all seen it, and we all know very little of it is honest feedback, most of it is bait to farm Jester awards or to get people to rage and abuse reports.

If you don't see what I mean, take a look at The First Descendant's forum, half of the first page is that in one way or another. ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/2074920/discussions/0/ )

Valve is not doing anything because censoring discussion about LGBT is a big no no in progressive USA. Trolls know that and abuse that fact, the funny part is, if you block them, and go to other forums, they post the same thing everywhere and you start seeing "This was posted by a blocked user" everywhere.

There's two solutions to that problem, before it gets even worse :

- REMOVE AWARDS. It doesn't serve any purpose other than being a "steam point sink", and suddenly, you get rid of all the Jester farmers, aka, the vast majority of these posters.

- Apply the rules the same EVEN when people talk about that subject. There's no reason people would be allowed to spam about that and not anything else. Almost none of these threads are locked... "This discussion has devolved and is no longer constructive" ? That's what you use to censor every single interesting discussion, but you allow these trolls and the morons who answer to flood your forums with no repercussion ?

And finally, a message to Valve employees, you think you help the LGBTs by doing what you're doing, but you don't, you just make it so that everyone is sick and tired of it, and it leads to more LGBT hate. You're accomplices.

Another "Chase my bigoted dollar or fail!!" thread. For thirty-five years the gaming industry has been proving that it ISN'T dependent on neo-Confederate white supremacists, despite what you keep telling yourselves. Gay people aren't the 'problem', the insecure people who bash them are.

This thread isn't about that though.
This thread is about what's colloquially also called 'concern trolls'.

They bandwagon onto forums bringing up LGBT and racial minority concerns in a bad-faith manner and attempt to bait people into a discussion; send them down a rabbit hole of further bad-faith arguing until people snap and react aggressively, and then they report them to get those posters banned.
Farming jester awards is just the icing on the cake.

Give them any other topic, and they'd do the same.
Before LGBT and racial minorities, it was Denuvo and DRM in general.
Before Denuvo and DRM, it was DLC.
etc.

LGBT and racial minorities are just that much more of a hot-button issue that we can expect it to remain their go-to topic of concern-trolling choice for, probably, years to come.

These are not people that actually wish well for these minorities. In fact, some probably do it explicitly to poison the well and get everyone that brings up such matters to be treated as an annoyance, effectively eroding the tolerance and acceptance that's there today as a result of the hard work and hardships of the past attempting to build bridges.

That's 100% the opposite of what I'm saying, learn to read.
Can't expect much from an activist.

.
The steam forums are useful, it would be like saying "if the pile of garbage in the parks annoy you, just ignore them" I just want that place to be usable, not swarmed with troll posts.
Unlike piles of garbage in the park, troll posts are easy to ignore.

Step 1: ignore the troll poster by clicking the "Ignore" button. That will also hide the title of the post so you don't even have to read it.
Step 2: the usual "report" part
Step 3: the most important one, that sit to move on. You've ignored the troll already, you already don't see their posts unless you're explicitly choose to which you don't have to do. So disengage. You have a (gaming) life you can focus on. You don't have to care any more than you did in steps #1 and #2. So don't.

And now please go give the OP a Jester-award, Tolkien Book Fan. That is...

LGBT features in any of this only as interchangeable easily enraging subject matter; the thread and any stated opinions bij OP (admittedly minus its last paragraph which it could've, therefore, in fact done without) is not about LGBT but about Steam game-forums turning into award-farming cesspools; people posting those threads merely to farm awards. Jester awards in the mentioned case, but the same thing happens with reviews and guides and other awards.

Please note that Steam-points are sold e.g. at https://www.z2u.com/steam-global/items-3-4249. Anything that can be monetized invites abuse; sometimes the conclusion might be that you can't realistically do anything about it -- but in this case it can, simply by removing "awards".

(and if you didn't mean it and were just trolling; actually sort of funny; in that case well done).

I disagree with you, if the garbage multiplies you can ignore poster 1 but 1 hour later you have poster 2 and 3 doing the same. That's what the spam is, it doesn't come from one or a few individual, it's wide spread.
The reports have been utterly useless so far and that's part of what I'm discussing in the original post.
And I also disagree with n°3, not reacting is allowing it to get worse, not telling Valve we're not okay with that is telling them we don't care.

Hey, I just wanted to tell you to be careful, posting links to such websites could be against the terms of service, I like that you provided proof of what you said but please don't put your account at risk.

In short-term thinking, yes. Doesn't work. Do that for a while though and you'll block most of the trolls. They don't pop up nearly as frequently, blocking them is a viable long-term solution. As for "telling Valve", see #2 on my list.

Thanks for the worry but judging by the forum rules I don't believe it's against anything: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6862-8119-C23E-EA7B

Most of the threads are being posted by chuds to give themselves a safe space to post anti-LGBT propaganda.

You underestimate the amount of trolls I'm afraid.

Telling Valve via reports is worthless, it's fully automated, even appeals are almost entirely automated, even if a human were to see your report, they see tons of them every day, they do not care.

Having a discussion about it is a lot more useful in my opinion, we can compare our experience, bring attention to the issue, get something moving.

Or, more realistically, compare experience, bring attention to the issue and get absolutely nothing moving.

Those with a devious agenda will not change, those who work for Valve will not change. It is a sad fact that 10-25% of the population have nearly 75% control of internet gaming & chats.
Talking about it does nothing. Let this platform sink, buy at GoG.

So does your 'side' just not have the technical expertise to create your own communities? Or are you just leaners, leeching off the work of others while demanding it be changed to match your needs.

That's very likely a Chinese alternative if that happens. We've seen cases these years already.

I already buy games on GoG, simply for the no-DRM policy.
But the truth is most games are only available on Steam, so you can't really go all in with GoG.
And I was specifically talking about the Steam forums, the GoG forums are void of human life...
Valve being a private company could very well change that, there's no other party involved to tell them not to.
OP I will drink your tears.
