About the "LGBT stuff" spam in games forums.

We've all seen it, and we all know very little of it is honest feedback, most of it is bait to farm Jester awards or to get people to rage and abuse reports.

If you don't see what I mean, take a look at The First Descendant's forum, half of the first page is that in one way or another. ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/2074920/discussions/0/ )

Valve is not doing anything because censoring discussion about LGBT is a big no no in progressive USA. Trolls know that and abuse that fact, the funny part is, if you block them, and go to other forums, they post the same thing everywhere and you start seeing "This was posted by a blocked user" everywhere.

There's two solutions to that problem, before it gets even worse :

- REMOVE AWARDS. It doesn't serve any purpose other than being a "steam point sink", and suddenly, you get rid of all the Jester farmers, aka, the vast majority of these posters.

- Apply the rules the same EVEN when people talk about that subject. There's no reason people would be allowed to spam about that and not anything else. Almost none of these threads are locked... "This discussion has devolved and is no longer constructive" ? That's what you use to censor every single interesting discussion, but you allow these trolls and the morons who answer to flood your forums with no repercussion ?


And finally, a message to Valve employees, you think you help the LGBTs by doing what you're doing, but you don't, you just make it so that everyone is sick and tired of it, and it leads to more LGBT hate. You're accomplices.

If you see hate speech, rather than giving it Jester points, just use the Report option. Moderators take care of it, problem is hopefully solved.

They have never closed an obvious bait thread I've reported before.

Removing awards is the only thing that'll indeed put a significant dent into things -- and it has as such been suggested probably more than a thousand times before in these forums, including by "Steam knowledgeables". It's not happening however.

I expect someone who still works there once made his or her career on it, and now effectively no one can bring up what a horrible mistake these "awards" in fact were.

As far as we know upto now, endlessly.

Although admittedly the filters and the standard setting for those filters work well for at least the porn content, just look at what a cesspool all of Steam has become between it and the scammers, griefers, trolls, award-farmers, ...

Exactly, which demonstrates it's not a problem on the technicallity of it but just that they do not want to do it.
I believe it's ideologically driven, they likely think something along the lines of "we"ll allow all of it in the event that 1% of it is honest".

i like how you make a post about the LGBTQ stuff and how its spam. And your way of doing that is adding to the spam of the anti Award stuff and talking about the rules rather than just adding to the posts the exist.

I've looked at the last 5 pages and have not seen any thread about it, so I'll deduce you're a troll.
One thread in 5 page, vs half the threads in one page. Can you spot the difference ? Which one do you think is spam ? ( 3rd graders can do it, you can too)

Edit : So I was thinking maybe there was a post page 6 or something, so I looked at the last 30 pages. There's one post page 15, June 27th about "the jester award" which is part of my thread. That's it, nothing else shows up in the last month. Where is the spam ? Is it in your head or in the forums ?

Unfortunately, reporting them does nothing. And moderators are pretty slow and inconsistent in handling reports. And they've gotten increasingly power trippy recently as well.

You are only doing a disservice to yourself for letting them rent space in your head. The same could be said for them.

The real shame is seeing some people not let others live their lives without bothering others about it.

My uncle/godfather was gay and it never bothered me any. At the same time he wasn't announcing to the world that he was gay as loud as he could on a daily basis. I can respect those approaches. When you make something about you it diminishes it's effect as far as I'm concerned.

The steam forums are useful, it would be like saying "if the pile of garbage in the parks annoy you, just ignore them" I just want that place to be usable, not swarmed with troll posts.
