There are NO games...?
What's the deal with this conundrum? I have 1K games on my whishlist and as I scroll through them, they are all mediocre and too similar.

1) There's barely 1 triple A game released a year that is worth playing these days

2) so much abandon-ware early access scam dev games releasing 1.0 versions that aren't finished. Then devs go onto another project before finishing...

3) positive reviews for bad games because they have meme content, troll reviews, paid for reviews e.t.c You don't even have to get past 2 hours to realise it's garbage

4) copy-paste games with no discerning differences like roguelikes/roguelites which are basically vampire survivors re-skinned, peaceful island games where you decorate your room and harvest corn (there's 100's of these with bare-bones content even less than mobile games).

5) Where's the large/medium-sized multiplayer games (more than 4 players) with matchmaking. Not false tag co-op, phone your friend co-op, couch co-op e.t.c I'm talking stuff like fall guys or something cool. All I see is F2P Fp's full of hackers, same revised football games, battle royale poop and 5v5 team death match (overwatch), toxic group PvP games like Sea of Thieves where a group of annoying dudes on chat go around ganking lesser groups/single players

6) Streamer games, oh my god. These games are priced at £5-12 and have about 1 hour of content, get hyped up by shills then die a rapid death once the next ones comes out

7) Indie games have become sour. I am noticing more indie games and their sequels with poor reviews, being worst than the first edition and priced higher.

What y'all think?

:BL3Thinking: So if something is mediocre or similar to …. something else …. it’s not a member of the respective set?

:ctlua: Seems spurious — a large proportion of members would tend to be “mediocre,” I wit.

I think that my libraries and wishlists on the various platforms/devices I use are brimming with good and fun games (old, current, yet to be released). And that after 35+ years of gaming.

I'll never understand how people have issues finding good and fun games in todays market. Seriously. People have to be really limited in taste/genres/etc, I guess.

Why do you put games on your wishlist that you're not really interested in?

That you're going to get a multitude of answers that both agree and disagree with you.

Since everyone is different with different tastes, you will not get a definitive answer.

I think the gaming industry has grown to put more quantity over quality, ofcourse there are plenty of exceptions, but the Steam store is a good example.

There are so many "older" games that a lot of people have never heard of (including myself), that are way better than "modern" games.
I think it is a nice "quest" to look for the hidden gems of the past, some may not have aged well, but others are a delight to play.

Why are you putting mediocre games in your wishlist then?

I don't disagree, but there are lots of AA games and indies that are worth playing, not to mention I'm sure there's plenty of excellent older titles you haven't played yet.

Don't buy unfinished games if you're risk averse.

Is is somewhat of a problem, yes. I blame the addition of "awards" and the useless points they provide. Creates incentive to farm for them.

Again, don't like them, don't buy them. That's not a difficult concept.

I think a break away from gaming would do you some good. Diversify your hobbies a bit.

There's more great games on Steam than there's lifetime to play them. Excluding copypaste crap, excluding early Access, excluding whole genres (every roguelikes can suck it as far as I'm concerned). How the hell can one run out of games to play?

So curate a better wishlist.

What they said. Why even *have* a wishlist with 1000 entries?

You are not wrong, which is part of the reason i only have 80 games on Steam.
I sometimes think they get pretty fed up with my refunds, but if i don`t like it, i don`t like it.

There are a lot of good ones too though, but they are usually older.
And sometimes you come across something simple that are loaded with silly humour and dumb wordplay`s like Cat Quest II that i bought for my niece, but ended up having a real blast with.

I love it when that happens, to find a neat game that way. For me it's with games for my kids and often enough on the Switch.

You've discovered Sturgeon's Law:
"Ninety per cent of everything is crap"

You can fester on the 90%...or look into the other 10%

I think that the problem here is not the quality of the games in question but rather the price. I believe that you will enjoy games way more if they are adequately priced for their content. And that's the real culprit since several years now. Which is why I started to wishlist games in the sole intent of waiting for them to drop in price enough to warrant the purchase.

It don't really matter to me to only get about ten hours of play from a game which is priced ten dollars. I have huge issues with games priced around 30 and providing only ten hours of enjoyment tho.
I think that if anyone can't find games suiting their taste, there are four potential causes
1) Too specific preferences
2) Impossible standards
3) Not enough searching
4) Not knowing what the player wants from a game.

The only way in this day and age that price can be a problem, is either.
-To solely play games on release.
-To play activision games that never go on a good sale.

It's never been easier to build yourself a library on a budget than now. Every day there's something on sale somewhere.
