No no haha i just think i made my post yesterday a little too quickly. but i still think they could lower the percentage a little bit .Have a good day/evening

yeah , getting a random drm spy ware on my old games really makes the cut valid

You don*t know how much the companies would need top pay if they would sell their games in real stores.
Hint: it is more than 30%.

And the search of the board will bring you up year old threads about that, and the conclusion would be, why do you care at all if you do not want to sell stuff here?

Have sometimes wondered whether or not it'd make sense to differentiate the cut based on by a game used Steam features (Steam cloud, Steam DRM, Steam multiplayer, VAC, ...) but seem to always decide that, no, it wouldn't; would drive developers away from a unified experience that users want.

Yet. I would still suggest that the amount of money that Valve rakes in seems to be saying that they take too much to make sense currently.

americans have disposable income, it ain't that deep

If companies believe it's too high they do not have to use steam as there is a reason the 20%-30% that steam takes is standard.

The digital fee these days is a lot cheaper then it used to be and one of the many reasons games have hardly increased in prices from 30+ years ago and only started to go past the $60 price like they used to cost despite inflation and other factors.

I think that people are concerning themselves with something that isn't actually all that relevant to them. A lower cut does not result in cheaper or better games.

And before people disagree with that, keep in mind that us old timers have heard that story for decades now...

As this particular instance of "people" specified; they're interested from a potential developer standpoint.

I might do a game one day thats why i care about the cut .

Then you should inform yourself about how much you "pay" elsewhere.
And keep every other costs in mind which you will need to pay like taxes.

You could be really surprised at that point if you see that the 30% valve takes are the lesser problem when you can keep 10-20% from the rest.

My post was in general, not directed at a specific person. So the post remains as it is.

I highly recommend this video by an actual game developer who has their games on Steam explaining how Steam works, what Steam takes and what they, the developers, get in return.
And why Steam is still the best platform for publishing games on PC with a huge lead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwoAmifo9r0&t

The relevant stuff starts around 1:50.

I know that it costs more to market a physical game compared to a digital version
