Should people who hide behind a private profile (vale) be responsable for their answers?
I know this is a controversial question but its a good question and needs to be addressed. First I want to state that I one hundred percent support game designers and program writers being allowed this option so they can freely observe what we gamers are saying about their games. Otherwise they would be getting blasted all over the place by angry gamers. I get it. I also get high profile people like actors, performers and professional people being allowed this option as well. But it is also my opinion that the ordinary Joe/Jane be responsible for their actions and lose that vale if they misbehave.

Now that I cleared the air on that. I do have issues with people who respond to one of your questions in an angry tone or worse threatening to do things to your thread that are not part of Steams forum rules. You try to go in and see just who this person is and low and behold they are hiding behind a vale.

Anyway it is my opinion that anyone who is hiding behind a vale have rules they must follow to keep this vale. If you abuse it, you lose it. That means if you can't follow forum rules you lose that vale.

I am sure those that are hiding are going to totally disagree with me and I understand. So what are your opinions on this subject and do you think that these people should lose their vales if they misbehave? To make clear this is question is only my opinion, nothing more.

Would the vale make any difference? Seems you are wanting to use something on their profiles as bait/ammo.

I am sorry but I totally disagree. If someone attacks my thread I should have a right to know who they are. It is very easy to come on here and slander if you are hiding. I would image that you are well behaved and follow the rules so for you its not a problem but for those that use this forum for some sort of agenda then yes you need to play by the rules. My opinion.
Mad Scientist 17. apr. 2024 kl. 15:12
I have seen a user with multiple accounts that are all public giving legitimately dangerous and lethal "advice" or "answers", so profile privacy from public, friends-only, or private has nothing to do with it compared to what they write & their behavior which is their personal choice.

Rule breakers can already be held accountable for poor behavior or bad information.

You'd get nothing from their profile and they're not going to give you the personal info of a user.

Do note people disagreeing with you or pointing out that you're wrong is not "slander".

No you don't. If someone breaks the rules report them. Posting in your thread doesn't negate their privacy rights and decisions and doesn't grant you special privileges. Creating some narrative to grant yourself rights is a child's fantasy.

Besides if Valve agreed with you, topic creators would be able to see into private profiles. But since they don't, you can't. And your opinion ain't gonna change it, so... what's the value of your opinion in this case?

I am not asking for special privileges just the act of being exposed if you want to misbehave makes it a little harder for you to do that. Behave and you keep your vale. Its that simple.

Private or not, doesn't stop you from being able to report them for rules breaking.
I have reported several users on their private profile for issues that have nothing to do with their profile.

And your opinion is yours, not everyone else feels the same way or has to agree with you.
Someone hurting your fee fees on the Internet does not give you the right to have them forced to self-dox or make their private info public. They didn't run into your car with their car- they do not have to exchange information with you because you were angry or upset with what they said in a comment.

If it *actually* breaks one of the rules, you report the comment, and let moderators deal with it. Then you block them, and never click the "blocked comment" button to see what they said later.

And... the correct word is "veil"- a piece of cloth used to cover the face. not "vale"- a valley or depression between two hills or mountains. The genie wears a veil, the explorers traveled the wild hills and vales in the foothills of the Alps.

You are asking Valve to dox people if they upset another user on the forums. If the person breaks a rule or rules with their post- Report, Block, Move On. Valve has appropriate punishments in place for people *actually* breaking rules on the forums, and forced doxxing is not one of them. And should never be one of them.
