What a shock (steam banned in Vietnam)
Being a dedicated steam user, putting around 4.000usd into steam, gaming is one of the very few hobbies I have left in life, and steam is the beacon of it. Today I went out with my girlfriend, had dinner, talking shjt, laughing as usual then I went home, hoping to get a good gaming night to end the day in joy, then this happened and I was totally in distress. When will the world truly work as a whole? Like a system, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and just accept them instead of continuing to make war with each other over superiority? For example, my country, Vietnam will never likely to be able to have a gaming platform as good as steam or make games as good as rockstar, fromsoft or even ubisoft, so why not letting the people use the best products they want to use, regardless of the nations the products are from, why must force us to use domestic stuff when the stuff are low in quality, when will the world grow to achieve common good?

Hey op, I’m really sorry. I can relate to finishing a days work and just wanting to relax to a game but it seems your government has nothing better to do then mess with your enjoyment

I hope the storefront comes back and communism stinks. But again, my sympathies. Judging by your profile you seem like a pretty cool guy, don’t give up on escapism yet

If you can put 4000 into steam you can put 50 into nordvpn. You'll be fine.

vpns arent really allowed, not to mention loads of games dont allow vpn usage.

in any case, why waste money on a vpn, you shouldnt need to use that stuff at all, they also dont do what they are claimed to do.

thank you for all your concern friends, im hoping they will reverse this bullshjt, and you guys are right the government had to allow the internet providers to issue this ban, so they all share the fault here

You and us are in the same boat like Indo bros before now. We either ride along and dive together or gone together.

It's suck that this has a huge consequence on Vietnam, and I do hope the ban will be lifted soon or left.

Ah no, I'm not living in Indonesia but Vietnam. I just saw that our situation is somewhat similar to the Indo incident in earlier year.

It's just suck suddenly. Now I'm afraid of losing this account in the future for a long time.

Steam was meant to be a global platform, available everywhere on the planet. I also do not like this rule. Now not even I can go to Vietnam anymore.

Why should I not be available there? Was it something I said?

Not to mention RT and others we banned. "Pawnhub" in TX, and many others coming up the pike.

States, countries, nobody seems to be any better than others on these matters.

In fact China has their own Steam outlet (dont ask how they get theirs, and we don't) and i haven't heard Russia banning Steam.

In fact others on another hub is asking why they aren't banned.

The fact is, there is no such thing as the "free market". Markets are only as free as our governments allow them to be. And we all have our reasons on why we ban certain outlets. Even in the "Land of the Free".

Texas did not ban porn sites, please stop spreading misinformation. They passed a law which is already being challenged and likely to be repealed by the supreme court that requires them to ask for ID and as a result the companies stopped allowing TX users to access their site.

They can operate in TX if they want which is the opposite of being banned, and if they lose the lawsuit they will probably make the changes and be back to operating in TX.

Last I check on this last night not sure if correct Steam being blocked because not applying taxes on sales?

If true they don't have to worry about collecting those taxes if they block them in the 1st place.

it's a rumour but very liekly to be true, no official announcement has been made yet from the authorities, but recently there were newspapers talking about some foreign companies not paying taxes including netflix then this suddenly happened, must be related somehow

Sounds like Vietnam has been bribed by China, so China cannot get easy ("illegal") VPN connections to Steam over Vietnam .. xD

I would love to think that way but it is unlikely, there are some other countries in SEA where China can use as an intermediate bridge, Vietnam being banned won't change anything
