Don't buy Steam games.
Steam only refunds a game if you have played less than 2 hours. This is not enough time to decide if you like a game or if it is going to crash repeatedly on you. I suggest buying directly from the publisher or dev and skipping this BS service altogether. What does steam even do for you, nothing, guaranteed.

but they arent counted in time played? seems odd if they can see hours played, but dont count it.
They can't see it, this guy just doesn't know how internet connection works. I know many people do this trick, I myself don't bother doing it because I love collecting video games as you see I have over 4000+

Obviously if you do a bit of research you will find how, I'm not gonna tell you how to do it.

i have a few games i played offline back when i first started using steam, those games would be showing 1000's of hours if steam did count it, but they only show my online time.
They are. They are not shown to the user.

that being said, everything im reading says steam cant track playtime offline, because their servers cant verify offline playtime.

i dont think they can track playtime offline, if there is no connection to the internet, as their servers cant verify a played game, or the time spent playing it.

offline mode, while still connected to the internet, might be another story, but i have no clue how it all works.

He is talking about "reconnecting" to the internet without deleting local files that has been created while playing in offline mode. He just thinks Steam knows it, so cute

They can.

What can I request a refund for?

Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours (this includes online, offline and shared library playtime). Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we've described, you can submit a request and we'll take a look at it.

I did link directly to it. I even quoted the section it mentions the 2 hours including online and offline playtime.

It's literally under the second section in the link I gave titled "What can I request a refund for?"

I'm doubting my link was clicked since I literally just clicked it and it opened the FAQ page up that has my quote.

Well, thanks for sharing that, very useful. Is Steam able to track offline played time?
Komarimaru May 7, 2024 @ 5:46pm
Steam has always been able to track offline game time, why ya hours get updated after coming online. People with a Steam Deck see this all the time.

Unless you play the game without starting Steam, right? ;)
