Tennessee to regulate internet content and usage.
Anyone seen TN House Bill 1614, the Hazelwood Act.

It's supposed to be another porn regulation bill but they added two stipulations that -

1. A site gets regulated to 60 minute sessions if it has more than 10% adult content. (Basically everything)

2. Their definition of adult content also encompasses content harmful to children which they describe as -

"When taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors;" (Who gets to decide this?)

So Tennessee just wants to regulate everything now.

Oh, this will be interesting.

This would not really be able to be enforced without a website having very invasive tracking on every user who visits it. Essentially to the point of every website being a RAT on the user's computer. Unless the government is going to install a RAT on every consumer computer to monitor it.

Reading over the bill, Steam won't be affected because it is targeting video and image websites.

A very interesting thing to note;

How the bill is also worded implies that a user needs to verify(using a photo ID) that it's them at a computer every time a session expires. Meaning that a user must submit identifying information every 60min on a website. That is wuite literally mass surveillance.

This bill will be shot down instantly by higher courts.

Since I actually read the bill, I'll just let you know it doesn't apply to Steam.

Heartbreaking, I know.

The thing to remember is much of the time these bills are theater to appeal to a politicians voter base. Even if it's obviously doomed to fail, "Well guys I tried, vote for me!"

So if it passes, that's one thing, and if it dies, that's something else.

Although the funniest circumstances are when the dog catches the car and the politician has to vote against their own terrible idea. That's really my favorite thing.

Yeah i know. Nothing applies. Yet 1/3rd of Steams content is considered adult content. It's getting closer and closer.

Wrong on both parts.

5k out of 90k are marked as 'adult content' on the platform. This bill focuses on video and image hosting sites.

Wouldn't effect steam, as they do not have more then 10% adult content. That was already proven in another thread.

Again false, please cite your source. The actual number is around 5%, your mistaken because you invent your own classification of what is or isn't adult content.

You can do a search of all games with and without adult filter on to see how the number changes. Adult content is not just content with nudity for instance.

Oh also courts have repeatedly upheld that video games classify as artistic endeavors.

Games are indeed classified as protected artistic expression in the US.

I'm just saying, it's only a matter of time. Don't forget, they're talking about adult websites. Not a site it's only 13 to enter, having this much adult content. Once they find THAT out, these gaming compnaies will be next.

Slippery slope fallacy.

No they aren't talking about adult sites. Did you read the OP?

A site gets regulated to 60 minute sessions if it has more than 10% adult content.
ANY site, not just adult. This includes stuff like youtube, twitter, etc

Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. literally have more porn than Steam.

It is also only 13 to create an account.
