Listing a Game Mod on Steam
Hi,

I've recently joined a team that have been running a popular game mod for the last 10 years. It's mainly been hosted on Nexus and ModDB, but I want to see if it's possible to release it as a separately listed game for free on Steam (Not via the workshop mod side of things).

Is this doable? I've not had much luck finding answers to this specific query online.
I can see that Enderal Forgotten Stories has done the exact same thing that I want to do, and this requires Skyrim to be installed for it to work.

Appreciate any insight any of you might have.

Im quite sure that if you pay the 100 publish fee that you can publish anything you want for whatever price you want.

You/that mod team might want to contact valve/the corresponding department for Steam if other solutions for that case exist or not.

I think this would require the approval of the developer of the game that the mod uses.

You can do that for a standalone app, this mod requires Skyrim to work.

Mods for Skyrim do exist on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/365720/Skyrim_Script_Extender_SKSE/

I know. I was saying that it may need to be more than just the paying the $100 fee. They might need permission from Bethesda.

Enderal had help&approval from Bethesda, so it might be safer for them to acquire one too.

Oh yes, I fully expect to need the nod from the Devs. Game is old now, so I'm hoping they won't mind too much either way.

Thanks all for your feedback.

Remember that even some of the best mods are from Portal. A Valve game. They have their own store page but the game is free. (The original game NEEDS to be owned)

So yeah, as long as original devs are fine with it, you could do the same thing.
