Does it even need any? Exclusives are needed only for console peasantry since their evolution is dead end which would already happen without exclusives.

Valve does not do exclusives.

The developer, publisher decides where their game releases.

I'm asking about Steam, not Valve.

Valve owns Steam. Steam is a program.

Perhaps I worded my question incorrectly. I am asking if Steam has major exclusives that aren't available on other stores.
I think she means do certain publishers ever do exclusivly to only steam I never thought about it much that is a interesting question

For clarification: Valve/Steam doesn't have deals which compel the publisher/developer to forgo other stores/platforms.

I think Hades 2 (if you are counting that as major game) is presently only available on Steam, but that's probably because it's an early access release. Not many other stores opt into early access.

There are a huge amount of Steam exclusive games. Steam is so dominant that a lot of publishers don't bother selling their games anywhere else. They don't think it's worth the effort.

Steam have exclusive games, yes. But that includes shovelware too.

Hades 2 is on EGS too.

To the OP question, there are over 30k games on Steam that are exclusively on Steam, including a ton major games like Elden Ring, Monster Hunter and a ton more.

The easiest way to find out.....go to a price search site like
isthereanydeal and look if a game is sold anywhere else (aka not for steam).

if only a steam Link (or keys) appear, then you could say that those are exclusive.

God point you have.....without consoles 90% of the PC games would not exist at all ;)

The developer, publishers decide which PC platform or platforms their games are on as Valve do not approach developers, publishers to put games exclusively on Steam.

Epic on the other hand have their anti-consumer exclusivity policy.

Apart from Valve games, are there any major games that only release on Steam or can they be bought on other stores?

Don't care much for this...
Kargor 8 MAY 2024 a las 3:02
Yes, there are plenty of publishers with their PC stuff only on Steam -- they just don't want to bother more than what's necessary.

Steam doesn't pay publishers to be exclusive, but that doesn't mean publishers have to sell through other shops or even platforms too.

It's on the EGS as well. EGS also does Early Access. Hades 1 was an EGS Early Access exclusive even.

Didn't pop up in my search results then. Must be because I don't have an EGS account and am not frequenting their shop. Well, the more you know.
