Games advertising demo, when there is none?!
I can't find another thread with this topic, and if there is one - sorry?!

So I noticed this because I kept getting a 'no license' notification, which I thought was weird, because I obviously don't have a license for the game, it's a demo ffs.

Alright if you click the 'demo' category on the steam store front page, you're taken to the page with the available playable demos, there are those suggested for you based on your history and a list (like with any other category). Okay so if you hover your mouse over a game there, there is a green button that says 'download demo', if you click that, it either downloads the demo, or it gives you a 'no license' message.
I tried clicking on the actual game page of the games that gave me a 'no license' message, because I thought it might be a steam thing, and I had to download the demo from the game store page - lo and behold, almost all of them does not have a 'download demo' button, not under their presentation (video/screenshots), or under 'games like it' to your right. There simply is no demo to download.

My question is; how come that is so freaking rampant? it's like every 3rd demo on the category front that doesn't actually have a demo to download, even if it looks like it (I wish I could upload screenshots here, it's super hard to explain). I don't know if it's something about getting your game up, and it looks better than 'coming soon', or what - but it bothers me.

Surely I am not the only one who experience this.

Many demos are only available for a few days as part of Steam Next Fest events. Once the event is over, the demo is removed.

That's right, you're not the only one who has noticed that.

Here on Steam it's exactly the same as everywhere else on the Internet. If things are not maintained and/or nobody cares about (this includes updating information on store pages or other stuff), something like this happens...

Regardless of whether this comes from Valve Corporation (as the platform operator and thus the party providing the functions on Steam) itself or from individual developers or publishers.

In some cases, we could even speak of deliberately misleading consumers.
