14 days for refund seems unfair to me.
I bought Jedi Survivor a while back and it was sitting in my library together with 100+ titles in my backlog. I got to it two days ago half an hour in the game, it crashed and wiped out my progress. I restarted and half an hour later it crashed again.

I checked the forums for my card (4090) and every topic I could find about the crash with solution suggestions. Nothing worked and it kept crashing so I could not even finish the first chapter.

I gave up, uninstalled and requested a refund. My gameplay time was about 100 mins. Steam is refusing it saying 14 days passed and for some reason counts it as 2hrs played.

Although I bought hundreds of games, I rarely ever request refund so I am surprised here. This is a defective product, I did not play it for 2hrs, why are they counting from the day of purchase but not when I actually started playing the game? Am I missing something?

Steam's refund policy is garbage
It goes by the exact number of minutes played, even if the refund page appears to round up.

A line has to be drawn somewhere, 2 weeks should be enough to try it out. If they gave you 3 weeks, people would just ask for 4.
Feel free to move to another store. :dealwithit:
I think it should be limited to 2 weeks after first download(after purchase).
Too bad I don't make the rules here.
Steam has to send the money to the companies after a time period and they no longer have your money.

You can't expect companies to wait months or years when they sell a product before they see any money.

OK I just checked it was exactly 100mins, not 2 hrs.

I don't see a reason for that line given that you already have 2hrs limit. If you had argued that 2hrs should be enough, that's line drawn, I would agree with you. As I said I have 100+ games in my backlog, when Steam offers a discount on a game I have wishlisted, I buy it but that does not mean, I will stop playing what I am enjoying at that time to make sure "it works". You really think that's a reasonable?

OK, but they already have my money and they can send it. As they are refunding me, they can get a refund from the other company as well. They are making the rules, this is their platform and it could very well be watching out for their own customer base, no?

Yes. It is absolutely reasonable given that the refund policy is clear as day.

It's Valve's platform, yes. Not EA's platform. As such, EA isn't obliged, legally nor morally, to sell on Valve's platform. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ such as "yo dawg, gimme that money back I gave you a while ago" will lead to EA leaving Steam.

You should have read the refund policy. You have to meet both requirements, not just one. It's not or, it's and.

The last game I tried to refund had no play time on it whatsoever. However, it was way past the two week purchase date. You can guess what happened.

EDIT
Also, what you spend doesn't mean you get a free pass as far as policies go. If that were the case, I'd be given the red carpet treatment.

If you lost money consider it a lesson.
You can still use the manual refund method, but the fact that you launched the game isn't going to help you. If you had never launched then your chances are better.
If you can't get a refund then you can still have the game outright removed from your account(no refund) from your Account Details page's licenses page https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/
There's a "Remove" link thats just WAY too easy to click on so be careful.

Fair point, but it really depends on the company. Some have great customer service and look at the case in hand. For example, my iPhone was well out of warranty when a clear defect made it unusable and Apple replaced with a brand new phone.

Amazon accepted a defective product I returned even though 30 days had passed.

In the end, these policies may be fine to reduce abuse but if a product is defective, it feels unfair not to consider that. I really wish Valve had better, more considered customer service. I could easily prove them that game is defective. It's been almost a a year since game release and apparently many people are still not able to play it and have similar problems.

I really wanted to play the game, but it is unplayable. I bet if this platform was owned by a great company like Apple or Amazon, they would not let their customers be shafted like this.

You do realize in the beginning that valve never even said that they offered refunds? Even though they did?

The point is, you procrastinated and now are paying the price for that procrastination.

Also, if you think it would be different if it was owned by a different company, you'd be wrong. All of these companies have similar policies regarding refunds. You should check it out.

What Amazon and Apple did is a courtesy. Not something you are entitled to. It's kind of ridiculous to complain about Valve over this when you keep this in mind.
