A gang ban never goes invisible, regardless of its age. It can always be seen on the profile.
The duration of the game ban is determined by the developer. Only permanent game bans are displayed on the user’s profile. Temporary game bans, or suspensions, are not displayed.

That's not how the API defines a suspension.

It's common knowledge that any type of ban that is visible on the profile in red, is permanent. This goes for VAC bans, game bans and trade bans.
You also see a message in game about VAC when the account has a game ban. That doesn't mean that game bans have anything to do with VAC. They don't.
