Wait, what?
Moving to Xbox because you think steam is not great?
Have you seen the news lately?
Anyways, steam is big but it's not PC as a whole, there's a lot more to PC than just login to steam.
Yes, the news looking very good for Xbox, if you like Steam or access too it. If you're into PC, and want a console, you're gonna want an Xbox.
You got Ge Force Now (Steam, Epic, Ubi etc), and Game Pass and the rest.
On the other hand on PC you get native steam, epic, ubi, Xbox, GP and playstation. You also get Ge Force, xcloud and emulation of every single system you can think of up to Nintendo switch...
I don't see myself moving to Xbox anytime soon, or playstation for that matter...
True, but you also get a lot of headaches, and can be very costly.
This is an argument that I just don't get it.
What headaches?
Having to push a button to update your drivers?
I almost never have to troubleshoot my PC, All I gotta do is maintain it in good shape which is not much to do nor headache whatsoever, with SSDs you don't even drefrag anymore.
More expensive I get it, but only the entry cost and I'd argue you save money on the long run.
You don't have to pay for online, games are usually cheaper and you get more stores competing with one another for your dollar so you can buy on different stores and get the best price for you.
Also, when you upgrade you don't have to worry about your games not working on the new system, you don't have to rely on the good graces of a company doing back compat or not and you don't have to pay 10 bucks to upgrade a game you have already paid for just so it looks a bit better.
Well, thanks for that (sincerely) but i heard all that before. And what did i do? Bought games from Steam for this old duster.
Not realizing, games crash. Games don't load, having me go to "processes" to delete, and re do it.
That my games are only as good as upgrading to a new OS, or i lose my games.
That when i have issues, i have to go hat in hand, to the gaming forum, to get trolled, and banned. Plus, no game.
That controller support, is hit, miss, or none at all.
Mods may break my games.
That my Anti Virus and other matters cause issues and problems.
I can go on.
But i don't have too, being all i do, is go to Ge Force Now thru Edge, press the game, and play it, thru an old Xbox One console, with no issues or problems, as mentioned.
I still get Steam. I get Epic. I get Game Pass. I get Xbox. I get Back Compatibility. I get Sony games thru GFN. I get it all, with no headaches. All for a fraction of the price, of a decent PC.
In short, we are getting to a point, PC is becoming a redundant tool for gaming (and other things), and streaming and cloud, that can even played thru a phone, will negate the need for these overpriced boondoggles.
Games crash or don't load -
There's a place called windows update, you hit check for updates, do those updates and your games won't crash and will always load. If they happen to crash or not load is an issue with the game itself and will get fixed by the devs. And yes, games also crash on consoles.
OS, I hope you're not using windows XP.
Windows is literally free.
If you want a key is dirty cheap and if you bought a key for windows 10, for example, windows 11 is just an upgrade.
Any game past 2010 has controller support. before that yes, is hit or miss but it's easy to get a mod to use a controller if mouse and keyboard is not your thing.
Talking about mods then.
Yes mods can sometimes break your game but you only mod a game of you want to mod a game and you knowingly so accept the risk.
Think of it this way, at least on PC you have the option, on consoles not even that.
Plus, if you broke a game with a mod, uninstall the mod, easy, right?
The only anti virus you need is windows defender. If you are running any other anti virus, maybe, and almost certainly, that's what is causing your rig to malfunction.
And as you said, Ge Force Now is a good option indeed if you have good internet.
But guess what, powered by beefy ass PCs...
I agree that in the future, not PC but hardware itself will become irrelevant, but it's not as close as people think and I think that maybe even then, having a PC will make more sense for productivity and native gaming from time to time than a console
As was stated, i do not need a Windows Update, a Defender, any need to upgrade OS, worry if a game has controller support, anti virus a non issue, as are my drivers, and mods cant break my game being there are no folders, and everything thru Cloud. I do not accept any risk, being non compatible matters, will not load.
And yes, i'll play on someone elses "beefy computer", as long as i didn't pay for it, and can enjoy my games with my fortunately great internet, on a 10 year old console, for a reasonable price.
Folks, there are better ways. But look, everyone has their thing. You enjoy your PC, great.
Sure, enjoy Ge Force Now by all means.
It's basically gaming on a console with more input lag but better visuals.
I accept as a fair argument if you say, I'm lazy, don't really know what I'm doing so consoles or cloud for me works better. This is fair.
This whole thread is not a war against consoles but rather, if you read the initial post, why consoles manufacturers such as playstation and people around gaming media think that PC gaming is just about power, therefore, if they come up with a PS5 pro and dangle game sequels on our faces that we will switch.
There's a market for people like you who think PC is just the more powerful option not realizing that what you can do with a PC regardless of being the most powerful thing on the market or not is much, much more.
Just the fact that you can customize you experience to what you think is best for you is already leagues beyond what consoles can offer.
Performance and quality modes are laughable.
Also, the exploitation that those companies do on people is nonsensical and it boggles the mind how so many people not only get behind it but also go out of their way to defend it.
Well as far as PS, i have PS4, and it's a paperweight, and for me a total waste of money. I bought that for GT Sport and MLB The Show. The latter went to Xbox negating the need, and the prior they shut down the servers. PS, is useless imo.
As far as PC gaming, dude, don't get me wrong. Games on PC, and what they offer, is second to none, as to my choices in games. It just is, and what GFN provided me, is access to those very games i want to play, on a beat up Xbox One.
No need to upgrade my console, to play games i would have to upgrade to next console, not to mention, games like Arma 3, American Truck, The WW1 Game Series, that is on console, but i can play here with up to 200 bots. Vermintide, in THIRD person with the Mods. Mudrunner, and their mods. I'm having an absolute blast.
PC is where its at, when it comes of my choice of games, and what it offers.
But going to your first point, yes, i am as dumb as a door nail when it comes to to tech. I am a console, peasant. And proud to be.
But i'm getting the games i want, and saving a bundle, without the expense or headaches.
Again as you mentioned, for a person like me, Xbox and GFN, is the way to go. But if you're a techie, and got money, and can deal with the maesltrom, by all means,. PC is the way to go.
Fair enough.
I respect your choice and it makes sense budget wise.
There is for sure a place for different crowds.
PC is my way to go due to the options I have within the platform and I think it's fair that people have options in general such as to pick their platform.
And again, this thread, aside from the click bait title, is not meant for war against console but rather clarify that power is not the main aspect of PC gaming, there's way more to it and companies that think like that will fail to capture a new audience.
Sony would make more money bringing down the walls than putting restrictions such as time exclusives hoping people would jump ships for a slightly more powerful box and a game with the number 2 on it.
Making people sign in to extra accounts to boost their metrics and appease share holders with inflated numbers is definitely not the right move.
At least Microsoft had this right, not only GP is on PC but you can also buy their games on steam.
But yeah, your choices make sense for you as they should.
The main downsides of PC are specs and the money required to keep up, also the forced upgrade of Operating systems every few years.. Virus and malware are more prevalent on PC and a new console is much much cheaper than a PC..
Controllers suck though.
