Yeah, I've been around since pentium 166, 1995 if I'm not mistaking...
Doom 2 was awesome!
Duke Nukem 3d...
PC - versatile, can upgrade any part, can emulate platforms, and i can name few other thins as well
Console - new generation console comes out every few years, limited or no hardware upgrade besides buying new console. pretty much download game with updates and play.
power or performance doesn't mean much as the problem with consoles is if you want the new/next generation console then you have to buy a new console, with pc you just upgrade parts as you need
And one of the issues when jumping into a new gen is that either your games don't work on the new console or your game is stuck to how it was when it came out.
Bloodborne runs on PS5 at 1080p 30fps and you can't do anything about it even tho the PS5 is more than capable of 1440p 60fps for that title.
No wonder why half of the playstation base is still on PS4. Not many new games to justify a new console and your old games are gonna run just the same on both consoles so why bother...
When you get a new GPU you are happy firing up old titles just to see how much better they can look and run.
pc can be used for work, gameplay, modding and if you build it correctly and get lucky you wouldn't need more than a current consoles price to upgrade your rig for a decent pc even down the line.
meanwhile consoles are only just the ecosystem and exclusive games nowadays imo and even then that has begun to change aside from nintendo.
for console vs pc it all comes down to if you think buying a console is worth it for the exclusives.
that is why i prefer pc's, if a game doesn't work, good chance someone made a mod or something for it to work. or you can find a way to emulate the platform to it. for me consoles is more of plug in, pop in a game and jam. but most of games are on pc's so why waste money on console
Actually mine first ones were Test drive 4, Prince of persia, Operation Wolf (that is game before Wolfenstain 3D) and microsot flight simulator... those are mine first games
Dude, PC gaming is epic!
Warcraft 2 and 3
Diablo 1 and 2
Unreal tournament
Quake...
I remember playing need for speed underground and modding new cars, attachment, wheels. There was a website you could download the files for the car models and it was just a drop in the folder...
doom 3 blew my mind with its visuals when it came out...
Those were the days
But like you mention Alvarez_Tiago. pc gaming is epic, i lost track the amount of mods and stuff i downloaded for Quake 2 and Unreal tournament when it was still popular. was still battling with dial up modem before we got ISDN installed then few years later ADSL
Anything from the PS2 or early generations, a console made perfect sense.
The PS3 to PS4 generations were debatable.
Now, there is no reason to buy a PS5 or any console over a PC.
That said, PC will be my main platform moving forward, but I will likely still buy Nintendo consoles if the Zelda games are good enough.
1.) they were significantly cheaper. $300 vs a much more expensive PC. The PS2 even sold at a loss to make this happen, because they knew they would make their money back on software. Now a PS5 cost around the same price as a gaming PC.
2.) instant gameplay. You could rent a game and be playing immediately without accounts or required downloads. Now you have day 1 downloads and 3rd party account sign-ins, same as PC.
3.) no mid generation upgrades, meaning one console purchase could last you 7 to 10 years. No confusing pros versions, no paying multiple times for upgrades to play the same games. (Memory pak on N64 aside), but that is all gone now too.
Whereas PC gamers were upgrading GPUs every few years. Now consoles are expecting you to do the same thing.
Except, I can still play my PS2 era games on PC. PS5 won’t allow it because “no one buys it for those old games,” but they have no issue reselling you those old games.
So no, there is no longer a use case for consoles. They are just weaker PCs in walled gardens now.
