Cloud Gaming and the Future?
Cloud gaming will either be the future or fail again, because it's already the third or fourth attempt that the company has tried this since 2009 when it launched onlive

Cloud gaming will always remain niche until it's cheaper and has less latency that comes with it. Those that use it now are generally not caring about latency, or playing game where latency affects the experience greatly. And generally cannot afford at least mid ranged hardware and the upgrade cycle of PC.
The business will probably mature with Xbox Cloud Gaming, and I think it will grow in the area of less powerful hardware, running heavy games, in addition to the great profit from this, because the game is not yours, but the company that is making the game work for you. But I think that if this grows the community will suffer with this issue...

Depends is Monkey Magic flying on the cloud, if so it is the future.. if not its probably another gimmick to take gullible people money.
Or... third way: Cloud gaming will find its own niche and won't either fail nor become the standard.

Don`t think anything like that would be actual success until another decade or two. Tech is just not there yet for it to work.

I hope it's not "the future", because I like modding games. Which only works when they're on local storage.

edit: it's also probably not great for the folks who like to build monster rigs (because anything less than 4K/120fps/RT/etc "makes their eyes bleed"). No cloud gaming service is going to fill up their server farm with RTX 6090's and Ryzen 9800x4D's with 128GB of 10000-speed RAM.

Cloud gaming has a very specific set of conditions that need to be true for it to be a better experience than any other form of video game playing. Those conditions have not changed over time.

There's a very small niche of players and games who can benefit from it. If you can play a game locally, that is always preferable due to latency and bandwidth, so one of the conditions is that the game can't run as well on the hardware you have physically near you as it does on the computer you are using remote desktop to access.
In a word, yes. Ge Force Now is a huge success, and the Xbox Stream service, at least when i used it on Forza (that's a pretty good gauge) and Starfield, ran flawlessly. But i live in a big city, in the NE, blessed with great internet.

Once advances in internet for the mass amount of people happen (if it does), there's no stopping it.
Unless they add the BS Zelda heroes to Smash, I don't think anything of "cloud gaming."

Though I give kudos to Google for firmware patching Stadia controllers so they can be still be used as regular controllers when Stadia shut down. Avoiding mass e-waste and supporting controllers that aren't lopsided xbox-layout abominations is commendable.

Seriously, BS Zelda is pretty cool bit of gaming history, and deserves more recognition.

I play my games fine on cloud.
Any game.
I dont feel a difference.
On a 10 watt pc.

I think you missed to name one audience.

GFN isn't cloud gaming.

Also, cloud gaming actually grants you less ownership over the license of the game. Kinda ironic to be advocating for it.

Cloud gaming is when you play a game in the cloud.

Geforce just did it right, by letting you play your games there.
Not trying to sell you the games on the cloud only.
