SteamOS Question

On one of the Steam pages there is a very old thread about the Steam Machine, which according to the page distributes an ISO that is (according to the page) compatible with any computer that meets the requirements. I downloaded it and tried to install it on my gaming PC, but the link they provide for download is the download link for the SteamOS recovery image for the Steam Deck. Could someone help me with this issue? I didn't quite understand.

Steam OS 2 is no longer available on the site. It used to link the old SteamOS 2 and caused confusion after the Decks release with users thinking it was the new SteamOS 3. Valve decided to replace the SteamOS 2 link with the SteamOS 3 recovery image until they're ready to fully release SteamOS 3.

...which won't be for a long time.

The logical workaround is.
Install a Linux distribution of your choice
Install steam
Set it to always open in big picture Mode at Boot

If you do that you more or less have the same as valve markets as steam os

Don't know why there isn't a SteamOS today.
The Steam deck is great but ought to be a self contained OS.
You would think Steam and AMD could figure out an OS to run on AMD hardware, if AMD worked with Steam to create a dedicated AMD-SteamOS free for AMD hardware machinces it would boost/support AMD hardware sales.

Instead it's a compatable Steam software embeded onto Linux which is stuck in 1990 computer lingo interface. ok to run this learn some machine code, attend crash course computer collage for 6 weeks.
