What is wrong with Sony games requiring PSN account on steam?
Hello.
You probably already know that some Sony-published games on Steam require PSN accounts: Until Dawn and God of War Ragnarök are some of those games.
Since I'm yet to buy these games, I was wondering what is wrong with the requirement of linking your PSN account to your Steam account? Is there any particular reason for people to not want\like linking the accounts?

If people wanted PSN, they'd have a PlayStation. If they have a PlayStation, they aren't as likely to buy the game on PC...

Sony though want to drip feed single player games onto PC to "encourage" PC gamers to buy PS5s for the sequels.

Key point, single player. There is no reason to require linking PSN accounts for a single player game. All that requirement does is force the creation of an unwanted account with a platform holder known to be utterly rubbish when it comes to data protection. It also then means that those single player games are not available to PC gamers in the 170 odd countries that Sony do not offer PSN to.

The whole thing is ridiculous because Sony don't understand gamers at all.

You have hit the nail on the head.

yeah even on android , you don't need an account to play single player games unless you don't want cloud saves but steam has that covered
This is therefore equivalent to: "Sony has stopped releasing games for the PC." And I say this as someone who does not live in one of the blocked countries.

Agreed 100%. Sony is overestimating how good they think their games are..

I don't know about that. Sony might require Stellar Blade to have a PSN account too when it comes to the PC. And if that happens it'd be hilarious because culture war warriors wouldn't know what to do.

No idea what that is because i do not follow Sony.. I do not care if i do not need to buy anymore Sony games, they as i said aren't that great.
if sony can release a single player game and still want us to make an account for data harvesting, does that mean they could release a shadow of the colossus remake port on pc?
Absolutely nothing.

Off topic, but bluepoint butchered the remake in terms of character movement animations/facial animations (including cutscenes), colossi looking worse in ways than the original, some atmosphere and other things.

damn really? lol i know they screwed up demon souls remake super hard and even having input lag which is a massive L but seriously, i thought it was a 1:1 remake of ps2 version but with modern tech, damn maybe i should emulate the ps2 version to see what's up
Sony in USA is also a company made of PURE EXCREMENT. At least the influencers, activists and higher ups who hate games and gamers.
Sony also decided to lock every future release on Steam behind PSN when people decided to defy Sony over the Helldivers 2 situation, along with Stellar Blade and more.
Sony's PSN system is also insanely unsafe.Sure, anything can be hacked, really, but Sony's systems get hacked very often. Some people just aren't comfy with that, surrendering all their Steam data to Sony via that link.

And this PSN stuff locking you out of their games if you disagree with Sony on anything or being region locked? Yeah, as some say, also doing it with all single-player games.
So if you're banned or can't access PSN because Sonys' banned your entire country? Sorry, you're not allowed to play this offline-only game without accessing it via PSN first.
They're gatekeeping like crazy.

Sony also fully intends to implement a program or AI they don't have yet, but have the patent to, that will read everything you do in their games, everything you say, what you do in their games and waht you do most - and judge you after the fact.
Say... you curse a lot. Or go "I am going to frikken murder you all" but its aimed at NPCs. Sorry, you're judged as dangerous, unhinged, evil, or not tolerated in some way, and you get punished. Over profanity over something in a game.
Same if you are too nasty in voice chat. Might get banned.

This is me kinda guessing, but still heard and read way too much about this to not be concerned. I am in fact very concerned. And if it's accurate enough? Your PSN could be locked out or deleted for 'being too vulgar or offensive', and thus buying games that need PSN will end up being a waste of money, because they'll ban you for the slightest thing, and it'll be 100% legal.

There's a lot of reasons to hate Sony and keep several hundred miles away from them.
Sony in Japan is also almost entirely separate and has no real control over the USA side of the company, so that doesn't help things either.
This is what happens when you have an unregulated free market. Companies force you to create additional accounts to play single player games and install malware DRM that phones home and so on.

Steam should outlaw third party DRM, multi-DRM, anything that mandates creating an additional account in order to play.
Activision, ubisoft, blizard and way more devs do that not just sony ;(

GoG forces that mandate. Most consumers don't want GoG though. Publishers don't either.

The moment Valve would enforce this, there would be less games meaning less choice for customers. What you're asking for is lakc of the option to buy a certain game on Steam because the publisher would simply pull out.

Speaking of options, that's your solution right there: feel free to not buy a game requiring a third-party account. You are not forced to create a third-party account, you're free to not buy a game.
