Report a translation problem
You just get locked out of a few things:
1.) You can't own a player home
2.) You can't sell on the player market (not that you need it)
3.) You can't START a party. You can join a party. A paid player can start a party for you, invite you and others, then leave, and your party will persist.
You can play every job introduced up to the 2nd expansion and get hundreds or thousands of hours of game play out of it without spending a penny.

Though not the expansions only the core game and map.
Also there is Foxhole, one of the best MMO I ever played and it is really cheap (even more on sale) and worth more than it cost!

Participating in the player market.
Being able to host a party instead of just join.
Being able to level beyond level 70.
Being able to play the newer expansions beyond the first two.
Being able to do the extreme difficulty dungeons.
etc.
