Going to rog ally
I've had my steam deck since September 2022, and I've been in love with it but about 6-5 month ago I started having an issue, where games would just freeze and the whole system would restart, started randomly, then more and more often, I asked valve what I could do in January after trying pretty much everything in the internet, from putting it in battery saver mode or whatever, resetting the bios, to even wiping my ssd and reimaging steam os. Finally having enough of this issue and creating the courage to be away from my steam deck, February first I asked for an RMA, they said they have to issue the RMA, so I accepted without complaint to do everything the told me to do, after a couple of days, I've came back to the chat with no results, they gave me more steps... Until around the 12th or so I got to send the steam deck to get fixed, a week or so afterwards I got my steam deck back, exactly the same as I sent it... Which I didn't think much on since my problem was more internal, but lo and behold same problem still, exactly the same but now it happens every 15 min, so I sent another messege to valve, asking them for a reason why nothing was fixed, and for another RMA email... They asked for proof that the problem persisted, and then they said they are gonna send me a new unit... That was the 28th. And I'll be honest pretty bad service all around, they reply 4 hours after you send a messege, and having the same device with the same issue was a pretty dumb thing do have to deal with, naturally I voiced how annoyed I was, extremely politely even though this is BS, and that reminded me of an issue I had with my galaxy z fold 4 where it was a faulty unit that broke 2 times for the same reason even after fixing, and I didn't even complain they straight upgraded me to the z fold 5, and said it was an apology for the bad experience I had to deal with, even called me 2 weeks later asking if I was having a good experience... and honestly I was expecting valve to have a similar response, something like (sorry for wasting a whole month of you're time in a faulty unit and bad costumer service, we know u spent a lot last year in games, we value you as a customer, here is a 5 dollar gift card) idk anything, but nah they only apologize after i complain, which is crazy, idk maybe im mad for thinking they would act like Samsung did but idk

So, tl;dr...

For having to RMA the device multiple times, you want Valve to send you a new upgraded (higher tier) model like Samsung did with their phones?

Does that sound so crazy? We all should ask for compensation for our time, valve certainly would if they could... I gotten a faulty unit from the start, then got the same unit after RMA, now supposedly any day now (I still haven't received it) am getting a proper device.... I spent a month talking to them and now it's going to be another week, so my issue isnt fixed yet, same thing happens with my phone, and I didn't even complain about it, the just sent an upgrade as an apology for inconvenience... Idk

It's not a faulty unit if it worked for 6 months at least.

Not counting the initial mishap with the first RMA, they did exactly as expected and even sent you a new deck back.

Hopefully the new deck works flawlessly for you. It’s a great little device and I’ve had mine for a year and a half.

I did however recently buy a Lenovo legion go and while it lacks proper software that the deck has, the Lenovo out performs the deck by almost double the frame rate when used at 800p and the screen is so much better that I never realized the decks screen was lacking so much until I could directly compare them.

If the new deck doesn’t do it for you I would highly recommend going with the ROG ally as it will be quite the upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion, I might actually just switch, it hurts a little, but the extra frames will make the switch from the steam deck a lot better.

Only downside that it's not really a portable device at all.

Something that both Lenovo and Asus clearly forgot when designing a handheld.

You need acceptable battery life.

The deck oled has that, it's also the most ergonomic and has the most community and official support.
i would personally avoid all those handhelds an just stick with android based tablets, they function better have a huge selection of games an apps.

all of these handheld pc market devices are running into end of life software issues,

they made them with 16 gigs or ram which is not enough for the next 5 years of pc emergence,

with in 5 years i expect that 256 gigs of ram will be the standard and already most newish systems are rocking out 64 gigs with 4 super cheap 16gig ram sticks,

anything sold with 16 gigs of ram is going to be obsolete by 2028, at least for popular new gaming and already most of those devices overheat, have poor battery life and struggle to even process the games from a few years ago.

i recommend sticking with a good android based tablet for your mobile gaming needs, the concept of hand hold mobile pc is just not functional enough to be desirable, the operating systems are continuing to increase thresholds of resource use, right now the industry is trying to increase the functional memory usage of the pc to promote expansion of hardware sales to warrant you needing to buy a 64gig ram computer.

Yes it does. It sounds insanely crazy.

So apparently you think I should be getting an iphone15pro max if my iPhone SE has some warranty issues

Wait that sounds crazy? Well what do you know

Its also hilarious that you'd also probably try the same nonsense with Rog too. Its not about 'principle' with you at all

Nah, in reality that's something that various companies do.

Name a company that will give you any meaningful compensation for having to RMA a device.

Well, Google is full of examples, suit yourself. It's not unusual for a company to send you a better gpu, for instance, if your gpu is having issues shortly after you purchased it.

I mean I'm pretty sure apple will definitely give me an iPhone 15 pro max with 1TB to replace my iphone 14 256GB. That's definitely how that works.

So you don't have one.

Got it.
