Steam too resource heavy (linux)
I have a new computer on linux and steam is bringing my frames down in Tekken8, when it was fine the other day even tho i now lowered the settings and it somehow ran worse instead of better.
I get a resource monitor. Steam using 24% cpu and 15% cpu.
Idk if google in your webhelper is trying to steal my data in background or something. Idk
Just tell me how to have this use a lot less resources, bloated af.

Since the new CEF based Steam, you can't totally disable steamwebhelper without breaking something, but you can make it consume less resources.
Steam Settings: > Interface > Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views ... OFF (this should clear "hidden" memory consumption from the GPU and GPU time spent on rendering web effects) > Enable hardware video decoding, if supported ... ON (this should make any normal video and animated items on Steam run smooth, but it doesn't, as far as I know) > Library > Low Bandwidth Mode ... ON > Low Performance Mode ... ON (this does make the library look worse) > Disable Community Content ... ON > In Game > Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game ... OFF (this can improve the FPS and stuttering in some games) (you don't need it if not taking screenshots or making in-game purchases) > Delete Web Browser Data ... DELETE (this should clear up some cashed web resources) (WARNING: you might need to login to Steam again)
Also, before running a game, or whenever you don't look at a fancy profile or any page with moving effects, you should change the Steam window to display something with no moving effects, like the Library, Community forums, Activity, or Inventory. These pages have no effects and don't put much stress on your CPU. Some animated effects are just video files that Steam can't hardware decode like it should, so they are software decoded by the CPU. Don't leave any extra Steam windows or tabs opened. I think they render the web pages they display if not minimized or closed.

Extra 1: if you have limited RAM memory, it's a good idea to close and start Steam again. CEF based Steam is a memory hog and it will cache a lot of viewed pages in memory over time.

Extra 2: Tekken is a Windows game, so you're running through Proton. From the Library, right click on the game and go to Properties > Compatibility. You could try different Proton versions for this game to see which one works best.

Bonus: In case you don't use some features of Steam, you could also just remove some parts of it, by enabling Family View and disable Online Content & Features: Steam Settings > Family > Family View > Manage. This would further reduce the memory and CPU usage for Steam, but not by much. You need to consider if it's worth it for you.

Try clearing your browser cache in the settings.

You can also delete the browser cache in the properties menu of the game itself.

RMB click on a game in Library > Properties > General > In-Game Overlay Data >>> Delete

Disable HW acceleration for web views and restart Steam.
