Does Steam Require 3rd Party EA launcher App to Access EA Games.
This question is being raised due to the likeliness that Steam does require 3rd party EA Launcher to Run, Play, and Install any EA software.

What is your thoughts on this and will you avoid EA software because of this issue?

Some EA games use the EA App, not all of them, though. I don't buy games with such launchers on Steam, I'll get them on their own launcher, or console, when I want them.

I brought this up cause i went to play a game that tried to load and install the EA App at installation, then asked to link the EA app to my Account.

i find this all to troubling and bothersome, i don't enjoy having to create accounts to access games i have done it a few times and often the case is the games lack enjoyment anyway.

I avoid this type of thing. its suggested that steam removes games from its game store that require the use of 3rd party accounts.

Steam doesn't 'require' anything. It's the developer the one setting up their games.

I recently bought BF2042 on Steam, and it requires the EA client to launch. Despite owning many EA games on the EA client app already.

Devs are free to sell their software as they like. People are free to buy them or not. Third party clients are irrelevant on my purchase decision.

And for the most part all the DRM or third party clients stuff only matter to a very tiny subset of gamers. EA filled all the top sellers for months after coming back to Steam, despite their games requiring the EA client.

Other people shouldn't be able to buy games just because you don't like something? Not actually a compelling reason.

EA requires the launcher to validate you have the licence to play the game on Steam, due to accounts needing to be linked.

https://help.ea.com/uk/help/pc/link-ea-and-steam/

You only need to link your accounts the first time you play an EA game on Steam.

1) Sign in to Steam.

2) Click Play to launch an EA game from Steam.

3) Install the EA app if you haven’t already. The EA app will launch and ask you to link your Steam account and your EA Account.

4) Log in to the EA app using your EA Account info or create a new EA Account.

5) Steam will install your game and let you know when it’s ready to play.

EA also requires the launcher and account linking to play their games on Epic Game Store.

In the case of GamePass, the games are played via the EA Play app.

They also require account linking for Xbox, Playstation and Switch.

Alternatively if you dislike 3rd party launchers and account linking on other PC clients such as Steam, you get the game on their own launcher. Problem solved.

I guess i am lucky, nothing forces me to buy those products and if trying to run the game on steam launchs a 3rd party installatoin, its suggested people shut it down quickly, and seek a refund on the game if they don't like the 3rd party use.

for me, the game was free, but i will still not be interesting in owning it or playing it while it requires EA APP to run while still requiring other game stores running to decrease performance.

its a tough choice but at the end of the day its one each user has to make for themselves.

Data Mining, obviously EA wanted to collect there own user data and not have to buy it off of game stores.

Yes ... for me Dragon Age: Inquisition requires the EA App to launch it from Steam.

Never had any issues with that particular game and the only issue I ever had with the EA App was when I logged in the other day and it said I no longer owned the license to play The Saboteur even though I had it installed on my laptop at the time. Just booted the game up and it showed back up on the launcher as being owned already.

Honestly I'm not a big fan of all these 3rd party launchers myself BUT I understand why they exist and I am willing to put up with the hassle to have the game in my library. Simple as that.

I am a huge Dragon Age fan and own all the currently released games on the launcher except Inquisition which I purchased here. I also own the Mass Effect Legendary edition as well on the EA App as well as Mass Effect 2 which I eventually intend to ask them to remove it from my library.

Up to game studio to decide. Steam is just a middle man collecting money. Some software allows to disable launcher.

Depends of the game.
Dragon Age Origins doesn't require it, for example.

Steam should make a clear statements and prohibit mandatory second party launchers. This is ridiculous to buy a a game on one platform and having to install 3rd party software, linking it with you steam account and having it installed on PC.

Valve isn't going to prohibit them.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
